".....?" Jaden was definitely confused when she said that.

What possible connection could there be with her headset being out of commission, and her ignoring him?

But he shrugged it off and responded to the text, giving the information.

After a bit, he gave her the phone back.

Be there in 5. Leo had sent.

Jaden just chuckled a little.

"How'd y'guess?" he asked.

"But no. No I am not." he told her.

"It's pointless and just.... disturbing." he said.

'Impressive texting skills...' he then thought, having noticed how her thumbs had been moving quite adroitly.

Sure. Leo responded.

Where y'at? he then asked.

Jaden just nodded.

"Right." he said.

"Of course." he told her.

He then dug his phone out, unlocked it, and handed it to her.

"Here." he said.

Which was when she saw his wallpaper was nothing fancy, just 7 words:

'And then Buffy staked Edward, THE END'

Jaden was silent as she went and sat down, before sitting down beside her.

".....hey." he said.

"There anything I can do to help?" he asked her.

"Anything at all?" he asked further.

"Just name it, and I'll do whatever I can to get it done." he said.

"Anything in my power."

Jaden followed, as he said he would, and closed the portal behind him.

He then looked at Desiree, and acquired a guilty look on his face.

"....sorry..." he apologized.

"I should have warned you about that..." he admitted.

"That's... me being a dumb-dumb." he sighed.

"Do you need to go to the bathroom?" he asked.

"Just.... even to hang around the can for a bit?"

"I understand." Jaden replied.

"Come on." he told her.

With that, the two of them started walking, and then turned down a side street that had NOBODY there. It seemed like it was outright deserted at the time.

"Right." Jaden said.

"This way." he told her throwing an inky blob onto the side of a building.

"Go on, I'll follow and close the portal behind me." he said further.

"It'll take you right to my den."

Jaden was stunned and shocked to hear this.

He hadn't expected her to ask that. After all, he felt that he was untrusted.

He then shook his head a bit, and nodded.

"Yeah. Yeah, sure." he replied.

"Sure. I have plenty of room."' he told her.

"I assume you'd like to head there... well... sooner, rather than later?" he asked.

"Because we can head there right now if you wish."

Jaden slowed down to a halt when he was able to perceive the extent of her injuries.

"....." he was silent, as he felt the rage starting to well up within him, but remembered how she had reacted when he showed it back at the coffee shop. So he swallowed it, and hid it away.

"Hey." he replied.

"You.... don't look so good." he commented.

"To massively understate it."

"......." Jaden was silent as he heard this.

He almost couldn't believe it.

But he had to speak. Silence was the enemy here.

"I.... yeah. Yeah, sure." he said.

"I can get there right now." he told her.

"Where in the park?" he asked her.

"The centre, or somewhere close. I'm sitting at one of the picnic tables..." Desiree responded.

"See you in a few minutes." Jaden then said.

With that, he hung up and hastily got himself ready. He put on grey jeans, put on a white shirt, threw on a black jacket, made sure his hat was proper, and slipped on some black shoes.

He then threw an inky blob at the floor, and jumped in, appearing in a small alley near the park. He then closed his portal, and rushed to the park, scanning the area for, and eventually seeing, Desiree.

When her gaze absently met his, he waved at her, and quickened his pace a bit, until they were in chatting range.

Jaden just shrugged.

"Too delicate to have to deal with THIS bull." he told her.

A couple of weeks passed, and during that time, Jaden hadn't heard from Desiree at all. And he hadn't found any information on her family, the ones that were tormenting her so.

He was sitting in his suite, trying to search the net again for clues, before growling loudly, and knocking the bottle of water that sat beside him off the desk in anger.

"DAMN IT ALL!" he cursed loudly.

"WHAT THE HELL CAN I DO HERE!?" he yelled upwards, but knew an answer wouldn't come.

Jaden growled once again.

"Damn it." he cursed.

"I just feel like I can't sit around and do nothing." he told her.

"She told me her life was in danger as well, effectively." he continued.

"And if the authorities refuse to help her, then someone else should."

Jaden was silent, and then sighed.

"Well, I think I'll just take my leave, then." he said.

"And I'll do it using my portals, without going inside." he told her.

"If Desiree doesn't see me around here, she might trust you more." he reasoned.

"After all, I'M the X-factor here, so to speak."

".....but what about you?" Jaden asked.

"Will this hurt her relationship with you?" he asked her.

"Kalin, I'm practically nobody to her." he then said.

"I'm someone she hardly knows. YOU'RE one that's been her friend for a good while." he continued.

"And I get the feeling that without you, her life is about to get a LOT harder." he went on.

"Even if she doesn't want anything to do with me anymore, if getting rid of her family will get her back on a safer and happier path, then I'll do it." he vowed.

"....god DAMN IT." Jaden growled, as he about threw his phone to the floor, but changed his mind at the last second, opting to throw it down on the soft cushion of the chair beside him.

"This can't be happening!" he said.

"How do I prove to her that-" he went on, before pausing... and thinking.

".....unless...." he mumbled, trailing off some.

"Unless I take what Rene suggested seriously." he realized.

"If they're dead... then she doesn't have to worry about anything else from them ever again." he reasoned.
