Ash shook his head.

"Nothing special." he said.

"...they say the only thing that can truly remove a dark elf's mana is the dark elf that put it in there." he told her. "And that's not happening." he reasoned. "The next thing is another dark elf, but unless they're related in some way, that's not reliable." he went on.

"...but I just so happen to know of someone that fits the bill." he said further.

"I'm quite intimate with her sister, Ashleigh Encrae." he informed her.

"SHE'LL be able to do something, I know it."

Ebony cringed when she heard the name.

"Uh... right." She commented.

"I'm... guessing she's not as much of a bitch as she was when she was living with her sister, then." She added, bringing up a point in Ashleigh's life that he'd most likely forgotten about.

When he'd first met Ashleigh, she'd been going along with her sister's plans, her everything. She even played quite a hand in the torture to him and his brother as she'd honestly believed that she was above him, being only half human. After some time though, she'd learned that they were just as much a prisoner as she was, and that was what led to the three of them trying to escape.

"...that's an understatement." Ash responded.

"She's the one that helped me escape in the first place, and tried to help Lindsay escape." he told her. "She's no longer the person she used to be." he said further.

"...if anything, she wants to leave everything about her past behind." he then sighed.

"Except her mother." he added.

"She never wants to forget Miss Syraene." he told her.

"...neither do I." he then said with a small smile.

"Fair." Ebony commented. before grabbing a notepad from a desk nearby and writing something down. She tore the page off and held it out.

"Give me a call whenever you get that sorted out, so that I can make sure that you, or her, have the proper ok and clearance and blahblahblah. You know the drill, I know you've been here a couple times in the past." She told him.

"Beyond that.. if she can help, that'd be fantastic."

"Got it." Ash responded.

He then accepted the paper, and thought for a moment.

"Right." he said to himself.

'She's on medical leave from a hunt... was hurt bad... but it's been about 3 weeks... I think the worst of it now is that she has a small limp, and it hurts to fly for extended periods...' he thought, before taking out his cell and calling her.

"Hey." he said when she answered.

"I'm at the Unit in San Diego." he told her.

"Care to show up ASAP and throw a monkey wrench into your sister's plans?" he asked.

Ebony paused before silently laughing. She didn't even consider that he could, or would, just call the woman right then and there.

On the other end of the line, there was a sigh.

"Depends." She commented.

"Whatcha need me there for?" She asked.He could hear her getting up and starting to look for clothing. She was most likely not wearing much as she was at home, sunbathing.

"Got someone here... probably multiple people, from what I can sense... with her mana in them." he told her.

"Think you can make your way here and remove it?" he asked.

"And if so, how soon?" he asked further.

He then looked around, sighing quietly to himself, and looking at Ebony with a small smile.

He didn't say anything, but she knew the kind of look he had. It was one that told her to please not judge Ashleigh by her past. She was a new person, and she would help in any way she could.

"...and how are you getting here?" he then asked her.

"You need me to come and pick you up to teleport you here?"

"I can fly it. San Diego's not super far." Ashleigh answered.

"I'm in Salem at the moment, came with Rocky as she was lookin for some help with something." She added.

"So I can be there in ... 3? or so hours. Although if you want something quicker, let me know. I'm game for a lift."

"Oh, well... I didn't know you were helping Aunt Rocky with something." he told her. "I'd say you don't need to hurry, but... well, I wouldn't say time is a luxury we have a lot of right now..." he mumbled.

"I mean, if you want to get out here and then back ASAP, to keep helping Aunt Rocky, I can be there in a flash." he said.

"And then bring you back just as quickly." he added.

"So all depends on you, really." he went on.

"I know extracting your sister's mana from someone isn't exactly too much of a task for you."

"Yeah, I was taking a break anyway. Was sunbathing." She told him honestly.

"I'm at Rocky's Salem home. Come grab me. I have like.... half an hour? Before she gets back." She added. "So fi you want to hang around, that's cool. Regardless, come grab me. I'll be dressed in ... I dunno, three minutes?"

"Now, technically, -I- can slip past the barriers here." he went on. "And you know why." he continued. "However, Ashleigh can't." he then said further.

"Might want to wait at security so lizard-boy knows to expect us." he suggested.

"All right." Ebony responded.

"See ya in a few." Ash replied, before he was gone in a burst of black fire... though she felt some familiar mana to it.

"Yo." She started.

"How do you feel about going to the front desk to escort the lady coming to help with this dark elf mana thing down here?" She asked.

"I'd go, but I already 'skipped out' on enough work that I really don't want to be reprimanded."

Nate looked back towards Ebony, and nodded.

"All right, sure." he said. "I can do that." he told her.

"I'm scheduled to unpack these deliveries, but I'm ahead of schedule, so Dr. Edwards won't mind if I disappear for about 5 minutes or so." he reasoned. "I assume it won't be long, though?" he asked.

"5 minutes sounds right." Ebony confirmed.

"Cool." Nate responded.

"You all right?" he then asked.

"I mean, aside from... HIM." he then muttered. "You look stressed as all hell."

"All we can do it wait and see." he said.

"Neither may be innocent, but... they may have a chance at redemption." he told her, before pausing. "Okay, Ayla might. I don't know much about her. I don't know if Chris can ever be truly redeemed." he admitted.

"Anyway, the more I talk about this, the more agitated I get, and I'm sure it's not doing much for any of YOU, either." he then reasoned.

"So I'm going to go wait at security." he said.

"I'll see you later." he told her with a warm smile.

"Thanks." She added as he left, leaving her alone in the room for the moment.

She appeared outside, as Ash knew about her wing span in there, and she made her way inside. Her golden eyes scanned the area before resting on Jake, someone that she hadn't properly seen in quite awhile. The past few times she'd been there, it was the goblin who was manning the front desk, or maybe someone else, but it had been quite awhile since she saw Jake.

"Hey there." She said with a wave as she approached, knowing he could feel her mana, and probably smell it too.

"... Was called in to help with some of my sisters bullshit." She said simply.

Jake looked over towards Ashleigh, froze for a moment, and he could feel the fear and memories swelling up inside him.

"Ah... ah-ah-ah..." he stammered.

"L-L-Lady Encrae." he managed to get out. When Ashleigh and Jake were both still with Vanessa, because they were sisters, Ashleigh was referred to as 'Lady' by others. Under extreme punishment otherwise.

He then paused for a moment, and shook his head, smacking the side of it.

"Ah, sorry." he apologised.

"Force of habit, I guess." he mumbled.

"And you're here to help the patients with dark elf mana in them, huh?" he asked, his tongue darting out.

"Yeah... yeah, you're you." he confirmed quietly.

Jake was silent again, before sighing audibly.

"I'm sorry." he apologised again. "It was just sudden." he told her. "And... it's been a VERY long time since we've actually seen each other." he went on, before pausing again.

"...actually, come to think of it, from what I remember, you always treated me with the most dignity, compared to everyone else in that place." he recalled.

"Been meaning to say this for a while, whenever I saw you next, but thank you." he told her. "It meant a lot to me." he said.

"Still does." he admitted further.

"Oh yeah, and I was told someone would be here to escort you to the medical wing and such, and meet you here." he went on. "My guess is you got here quicker than expected." he added with a light chuckle.

After I gained enough of a heart myself - you know, after I learned that vanessa wasn't as right as I'd believed or so long... well, being nice to those she had was just one way that I told her to fuck off."
