I'm on an iPad 90% of the time these days so the fact that dv isn't mobile friendly doesn't mess with me too much. But I know if I had gotten on it even a year ago... that wouldn't have flown with me.

Dappervolk is doing pretty well for now. But... I feel like there's a couple of really big ways the admins are doing things wrong that could have it failing within a few years. imo. The biggest of which is that they don't communicate nearly as much with the users as they aught to, and so anything that is wrong with the site gets a 10x bigger negative reaction to it because the userbase is so in the dark and confused about what's going on and what's being priortized.

The second being that it's not even remotely mobile so there's a pretty large swath of users I think that they'll lose out on if they don't change that. And they're going to need to grow in order to get the site to something that's profitable in the longer run.

Yea that too.
I have a few projects that have priority. Ive got... a significant amount of vacation time coming up, hoping to use that to make some progress on some of them.

I am a coder. I have it in the back of my head that if dappervolk fails and I'm in a better place when that happens I may try to pull a bunch of people together to make one. I've got the front-end experience to that I'd actually be able to make it really mobile friendly.

That said I have entirely too many passion projects as it is so that really really depends on where I'm at within the next couple of years basically. |D

Younger users are definitely more used to the discord style chat over forums. But I feel like with a few tweaks to make it mobile friendly and a little more instant load-in (like the inline post notification voltra put in on here) it wouldn't be that hard to draw them in anyway. There's still a valid draw to a community that stays with you more long term instead of a random game that kind of exists on it's own.

The avatar sites are all slowly hitting their EOL after activity drop years ago I guess.

I think most of them it's because they were almost always someone's passion project. And They were built with code that was probably hard to maintain and move into the mobile era without a lot of rework that just didn't seem doable/worth it on a passion project as life moved on. It's sad but not wholly unsurprising.

@kittyzilla:
More than one bathroom when you've got a lot of people is pretty important! That's a good timeline though to be able to move things especially given the pandemic. You can take things at your own pace.

@kittyzilla:
Oh you're moving? That's always tough. I had like a week of overlap last time I moved apartments and it was not enough time lol.

@eyry:
Sleep well!

@pachi:
Oh no! Did something happen?

Morning everyone~

Yup!
But now I am going to go to bed. Night E! Have a good rest of your day!

Posted in a Posted 4 years ago

Nice!

Also we're talking across two seperate forums and I find that way more entertaining than I should lol.

Posted in a Posted 4 years ago

Ahhh. I suppose that makes sense on here, since voltra is pretty low-featured.

Posted in a Posted 4 years ago

Nah it's not too bad. But to have a posting event right after another posting event is a little much. |D

Posted in a Posted 4 years ago

well I'll probably do more than one a day to try and catch up lol.
But like... one per item isn't bad at all.
