;v; spent all morning cleaning up the mess they made of their litter. this is why i didn't want babies... but they're sweet, and i guess it'll get easier as they get older. can't be mad at em when they do that "mrrp" thing and rub their face all over you.

@Totalanimefan: they are, aren't they?

@Priestess of Pie: Every time a door is opened in the house, it's safe to assume a cat is already inside. Luckily they aren't destructive, just incredibly nosy lol. Gremlin in particular; she loves to hide behind things and has been accidentally shut in closets and pantries several times now. They are aptly named...

@koneko: aye, makes sense. I love em, but two cats is definitely my limit. But we did want two, so coming as a pair is a bonus. As for names, we didn't have a particular theme in mind, just something that suited our interests and sounded good together as a pair. We both like fantasy and fairytale stuff, so we ended up settling on Gremlin and Goblin lol

@Ark: Thanks! I kinda disappeared and missed out on taking name suggestions (we've been pretty busy) but those names are really cute.

@Priestess of Pie: Yeah, we were keeping an eye out for a bonded pair so we could avoid that issue without worrying about kitty getting lonely while we're at work--which was another point in favor of these two. As far as their age, I probably would have said no if they'd been any younger; they're still eating kitten food, but they're not too far off from adulthood. More teenager than baby, I guess lol
They are real pretty. Little supermodel cats.

@Kairu: ain't they? and they're cuddlebugs, too.

After many years of trying--battling rejection, indifference, incompetence, and outright maliciousness from nearly every side--we FINALLY managed to secure a home of our own and move out of our families' houses for the last time. There's still a lot left to do, but now that we're here and things are starting to come together, we decided we were ready to adopt. We inquired about a cat we saw in the local PetSmart, but he was already spoken for. Then the foster lady contacted us again to tell us about a pair of nine-month-old kitty siblings she had, and they seemed pretty sweet so we agreed to go meet them. Admittedly I was envisioning that we'd get an older cat, but I'm a sucker for pretty much any and all cats, and these guys were very loving and didn't seem at all bothered by new people or other animals, which felt like a pretty good match for us. So we agreed to pick them up this weekend, which means I've got some shopping to do in the meantime.

I'm open to naming suggestions. One is male, other one is female, though I don't think it matters that much. The rescue was just calling them "Hook and Sis" because the male had a kink in his tail (making it kinda hooked) and the other one is, well, his sister. Lame. I'm sure we can do better than that!

But anyway, this will be the first time we've had pets that are truly ours, and not family pets (excluding a fish or two in the past). So that's pretty exciting.

I love snails. Wish we could keep those giant ones here!

@Kent: sent you a trade!

Posted in packing Posted 3 years ago

@Totalanimefan: Yeah, pretty much. I just hope they bring my stuff to the house soon so I can actually have my own bed. maybe then I can get some sleep...

Posted in packing Posted 3 years ago

@Ava: We'd like to move again eventually since we're in a townhouse and would prefer a "real" house with a yard and a little more space and privacy. But we will probably be here for the next several years, at least. So we do have some decorating ideas in mind, but it may be a while before we can really put much consideration into it. We're gonna be very tight on money for a while since I had to leave my job to move and pretty much all our savings that didn't go into the down payment is going to have to go toward furniture, appliances, and other things we don't have.

Posted in packing Posted 3 years ago

@Totalanimefan: still not getting much rest tbh but at least we're getting things done ;v;

@Ava: most of our stuff is going to be in the u-haul until a little over a week from now. for some reason the u-haul box isn't being delivered until then. so for now, we're just camping out in the living room and living out of suitcases and whatever we packed in the car or got at the store. not much furniture but there's a mattress and a couple of end tables and beach chairs. we didn't have much furniture to begin with so we'll have to buy some over time.

@KittyBeary: thanks!

@Ava: We've actually had the keys for a few weeks now! We couldn't move right away due to work, but we're here now so it's all good

Posted in packing Posted 3 years ago

@Ava: aye, at least it's done now. Just gotta wait for her to get her equipment tomorrow morning and we can be on our way.

Posted in packing Posted 3 years ago

Looks like we'll be delayed yet another day since the U-haul is so late. But at least tomorrow there shouldn't be any reason for another delay...

Posted in packing Posted 3 years ago

@Ava: We currently live an hour apart from each other, so we each ordered a U-box (they deliver a box to your house, you fill it with your stuff, then they take it to the nearest facility, and from there they deliver it to the closest facility to your destination; then you can have it delivered to the new house from there, unless you prefer to pick up your items from storage yourself).
I had no issues with mine; they came and picked up my stuff today, so I'd have been ready to go today... but my friend's was delayed and won't be coming until tomorrow afternoon, and also didn't offer a packing help service like mine did. So she'll have to pack it herself, and how early they arrive + how long it takes to pack the U-box will determine whether we're able to get on the road and move tomorrow or if we'll be delayed yet another day, because she still has to pick up her work equipment and we don't know if we'll be able to make it there before the site closes.
So we've already been delayed one day and we're pretty much stuck waiting to find out what our next step is as we go along tomorrow.
