okok vreg throws the pillow high in the air and makes it explode with his electric attack. the sky catches on fire which sends nearby ships to investigate. a random pelican with like 3 cheeseburgers and a bag of chips in its uh beak sack(?) falls from the sky onto his bed out of sheer shock of what it just witnessed.

My two cents: If the driftwood is somewhat close by, Vregory can use the pillow to extend his reach. Then use the driftwood to paddle closer to the boy. Unless land is nearby, stay out of the water.
