I'm by no means that curvy AT ALL, I'm more a sack of potatoes that makes no sense but eyyyyyy still good refrence for chubbiness. - got some cracked glass pictures and put on exclusion blending mode (i also tried dodge and invert+screen but ended up liking exclusion best) - this is most of the glass shatter heavy lifting
- there's a spider web somewhere back there
- polygon lasso tool to select random shapes and inverted them, do that multiple times for some of the sections
- mild 3d effect from duplicating layer + blending options + deselected the R from the RBG channels + move tool to scoot the layer a few pixels (wanted to do more but wasn't sure if it was too headache inducing already lol)

@xvz: is the random inversion only on the shatter cracks or on the whole piece?
definitely like the 3d effect! (though agree it's headache inducing after a bit lol)

⠀|⠀post art by kiwi!⠀|⠀spooky chat@vixen: the random inversions are kind of throughout! it's hard to tell cuz there are number of things being layered but u can kind of see it more clearly in bottom left shapes for example , they're in a couple of places tho!
i recently learned how to do the 3d effect and it's actually really simple! i watched this video and it really only takes a few seconds lol. i was super tempted to lay it on thick but i was like this is probably too much haha

i think in the future i’d like to try it where i keep stuff on separate layers so the bg can have a “thicker” 3d effect (offset by more pixels) and the foreground just a little - that way the subject isn’t headache inducing to look at and maybe can give a sense of depth :0
i don’t usually do it til the very end tho so .... idk needs foresight lol

i think it's the faces on the skulls being very cute haha
@xvz: duplicate subject group (no background), merge group, flip vertical, free transform to shorten the vertical, perspective to diffuse the further edge, soft eraser the far parts, gaussian blue what's left. can also set the reflection to multiply for a darker reflection shadow.

what do you mean by "perspective to diffuse the further edge" ? like u make it bigger on the bottom?
also i feel like we don't see a ton of voltra fan art so i'm loving seeing it :3

@xvz: yes make the bottom wider, so the whole thing has a trapezoid shape. depending on the angle of light, the shadow perspective will distort. i personally like it when the light is sort of top down above a person, so the shadow's head is closer to light and therefore a larger shadow. but since it's also further from the ground when the shadow forms, it's blurrier with more light diffusion into the shadow space.
