Wow! That's a long night... indicative of a long tedious day?? It certainly sounds like you needed some sleep!

No idea why I was that tired actually. Now tonight is going to suck balls. I have to close with the bad coworker, and then open and close with him again tomorrow.

well at least you should be well rested :3
You're opening and closing with him? That's a really long day, isn't it? Is that usual?

Sundays are only 10:30am to 5:30pm days, so it's not that long. But it'll feel forever with him.

Oh right - I guess today is Saturday, isn't it?... making tomorrow Sunday...so that makes sense. Still, I can see where that would seem like a long time, especially given how much you adore this particular coworker! XD

I was told if he leaves work to be done, I'm not to do it for him.

It sounds like they want clear evidence that he's not doing his job. I hope the roles are well-defined, so there's no question about was it you or him that left X undone. What happens if it's screaming customers that he "leaves undone" (unattended)??

There's cameras watching us, but if he leaves the register again. Then I'm to call the manager and ask for permission to ring up the customer.

That makes sense. I can't imagine how it would work out otherwise - you don't want to alienate your customers!

Pretty low, because he's already been in trouble with a manager.

I don't suppose they told you that he was being watched or put on probation or anything (it's probably not permitted to discuss employees' status with non-managerial others)?

Yeah. Well, for what it's worth, I think you did the right thing (I know you did) and it sounds like they've given him a warning and are watching for some concrete evidence that he's messing up (i.e. telling you not to clean up after him), so I guess you'll find out soon enough...

Yep. I just hope that our till comes out correctly tonight. Because his till is always off.

But he's doing the register, right? And you shouldn't be checking anyone out... so if it is off, it should land squarely on his shoulders... right?
