"Oh, of course." Callie said with a nod as she followed him.

"What... was, or is? the guardian, anyway?" She asked, her voice curious.

"As it may provide some information for what to expect, perhaps?"

Adym opened his mouth to say something... and then stopped.

He was silent for a moment.

"Ah... I..." he stammered.

"I've... forgotten..." he admitted sheepishly.

He then thought for a moment, seemingly concentrating hard, before snapping his fingers.

"I remember SOMETHING, though!" he exclaimed.

"It's venomous."

"So whatever it is... don't let it break the skin." Callie commented.

"that's something, at least. And something pretty important." She added with a light chuckle.

"Now, how from from where we are, to the shrine?" She asked as they continued walking.

"If you happen to know."

".......that I have no clue about." Adym muttered.

"See, the shrine sometimes has a mind of its own, so to speak." he told her.

"Mist or fog will show up and cause people to go in circles." he continued.

He then paused, closed his eyes, and concentrated.

"But my senses say... we're 45 minutes away." he said.

"If we experience no interruptions, anyway."

Callie nodded.

"Well then... let's try and put some distance in." She said simply.

They were walking for about twenty minutes or so before they needed to split up. The trees were too dense to walk through, and the path split into two, with a rather dense bit of trees between the two paths.

". . . Well then." She said quietly, not sure what to make of this.

"Thoughts?"

Adym closed his eyes, concentrated, and then seemed to almost be knocked back by... something.

"Ngh." he grunted, nearly falling over.

"I can't get a read." he said.

"The corruption here is clouding my 'vision'." he told her.

"I have no idea which path to take." he admitted.

"...and I don't know if splitting up is a good idea." he went on.

"I mean, if I had to choose out of nowhere, I say... left." he then said.

"And no, I have NO reason for choosing that... except the corruption seems to be denser down that way." he added at the end.

"Well, that's as good a reason as any." Callie admitted.

"Let's go then." She said before squeezing her way through the narrow opening for the path.

On the other side, it ... wasn't pleasant. Everything was white, sticky, and easy to be trapped in.

"Careful!" She called to ADym, who was behiond her, as she continued down the narrow pathway.

"......right..." Adym responded as he followed.

"...white... sticky..." he mumbled.

'...what IS this stuff?' he wondered.

'...the hell?' he asked further.

"Callie, be careful." he then said.

"We don't know what's going on. We could be ambushed." he warned.

"Because of the corruption, I can't sense anything."

Callie was silent as they continued on through the path. It was longer than either expected, but at the same time there was silence, and a lot of it.

What the hell is all this stuff...? She wondered, not saying anything as they continued.

It was about when the path opened up, when they were able to be side by side again, that anything was noticed.

And what was noticed, was noticed by Adym... as something landed behind him, along with a large shadow above them.

Adym froze when he noticed the shadow above them.

"...oh." he muttered.

"Oh. Oh, dear." he said.

"Callie! RUN!" he yelled, before whirling around and readying an arrow in his bow. And before him was the most colossal spider that Callie had ever seen. It looked like a weird hybrid of a tarantula, and an orb-weaver.

Adym let the arrow fly, but the spider was quick, and knocked it away with one of its long legs.

"...crap." Adym muttered.

As the arrow was knocked away, Callie let out a string of curses that she'd picked up from her father - but they weren't English, they were curses from that world - before diving out of the way of a leg coming down on where she was. She landed in a rather covered bush, before trying to get out of it.

Another leg came down on where Adym was standing as well.

Adym barely had time to register that Callie had just swore using terms from this world, before he needed to dodge the oncoming leg.

He leapt out of the way, barely avoiding the attack... and as he flew threw the air, he notched another arrow in his bow, and let it fly towards the leg that had come down where he was.

This time, it connected, and dug into the limb.

When it did, the creature let out a horrifying screech... but it didn't seem like it was in immense pain.

Yes, the arrow had hurt, but the damage was probably minimal.

Callie managed to get out of the bush before she was stomped on by one of the legs.

As she barely managed to avoid it, she used teh dagger that she'd gotten from Adym back at his place to slice the leg. The creature let out a screech of pain as it was sliced - and cracked due to being an exoskeleton.

". . . well... maybe that'll help." she muttered as she hurried over to Adym again.

"Well... I didn't expect a giant fucking arachnid." She half snapped, but it was easy to tell tha tit was due to the hell that was going on. She wasn't impressed, at all.

Adym was silent, before sighing heavily.

"I'm sorry!" he apologised.

"I forgot that a spider was the guardian!" he went on.

He then jumped out of the way of another leg stomping down, before the creature let out another screech.

"Oh boy..." he muttered.

"It's angry now." he said, shaking his head slightly, and backing away from it.

"Save your apologies." Callie half snapped as the creature screeched.

"We ned to survive this before worrying about anything like that." She added before looking around, taking in what was around them.

"I'm going to try and scale a tree." She then said, hurrying over toward a tree. She didn't manage to make it there, as one fo the many legs from the spider cut her off, stomping down in her path. She backed away from it, before cringing. The leg was wider than she was.

"... Ugh." She muttered, looking around, and up, hpoing to see how far away the body was.

The body towered over her... but she saw that it could easily get down close towards her.

And it looked like it was doing just that.

It lowered its head, and she saw its fangs open up... moments before an arrow embedded itself under one of its eyes.

It recoiled and screeched again, as Callie saw it was Adym that let the arrow fly.

"Under it!" he said.

"It can't reach you when you're under it!" he informed her.

"And it won't want to get its weakened underbelly near you!"

". . . good to know." Callie said quietly as she looked around, but didn't move. She wanted it to come down, so that she could dive beneath it and hopefully slice it's underside.

That was what she was hoping to do, at least. Of course, she was sure it wouldn't play out as well as she was wanting. Alls he could to was try, and that was it.

Or she could climb the leg that was behind her... As soon as that idea crossed her mind, she turned and started for the leg that had cut her off.

"....Callie?" Adym muttered.

"Callie, what are you doing!?" he exclaimed.

He then paused for a moment, as things processed through his mind. Possibilities, plans, everything.

And then he froze.

"...wait..." he mumbled.

"You're gonna try to CLIMB a leg!?" he yelled at her.

"What else are we going to do!?" Callie called back to him as she reached the leg and started to climb it. She didn't care if Adym had a problem with it, they had to do something to take this thing down - maybe not kill it - and this was the best she could come up wit for the moment.

Worst case scenario, ... well, she didn't know what the worst case would be aside from both of them dying and this being a failure.

She just hoped that wouldn't happen.

Adym just gritted his teeth, but didn't have time to argue.

The spider had noticed that Callie was climbing its leg... and it wasn't happy.

It looked ready to strike her, or shake her off, which caused Adym to fire another arrow at its face, in an attempt to distract it.

It worked... and the large arachnid was now trying to stomp on the wood elf.

Meanwhile, as Callie climbed, she felt her hands start to... sting, a bit. Her palms and fingers were becoming red and raw, and there was a good chance it was because the hairs on the spider's leg had some kind of irritant on them.

But that's all it seemed to be for now; an irritant.

She had bigger problems with trying to hold onto the hairs, as it thrashed and stomped about.
