In regards to the things JK Rowling has said/tweeted in recent years, and where she chooses to align herself, I feel it's necessary to address such things here since this thread is obviously inspired from her works and would not exist without her:
I thank her for her contribution of Harry Potter to the world, but the thoughts, words, and opinions she has are NOT in alignment with my own personal beliefs. I believe that trans women are women, and trans men are men, and trans people are exactly who they say they are, and that none of these people take anything away from me or any other cisgender person out there.
In this castle we respect all lives and all identities, ALL THE TIME. There are no exceptions. Ever. Not only is it against Voltra TOS but it has always been, and will always be, one of my thread rules that discrimination of any kind is not allowed or tolerated; and that rule most definitely includes transphobia.
I fully understand and support ANY person who wishes to distance themselves from her words in any way they choose; ignoring her, blocking her, tossing out their Harry Potter memorabilia, avoiding anything to do with Harry Potter, etc. I will not ever hold that against a person, even if that means they must remove themselves from my threads, or even blocking me on Voltra, but I do wish to make my stance abundantly clear: I am not siding with her, nor would I ever choose to defend her, and I hope that - should you be one of those people who must distance themselves for their own well being - we may still remain on good terms.
I believe that Harry Potter is ours now and, as far as I'm concerned, how JKR chooses to align herself today absolutely does NOT represent what I believe to be the overall message of inclusivity and acceptance of the books. Nor do they represent my own personal beliefs. My love of these books and movies, that have helped not only myself but countless others through dark times in their life, remains. My support of the author does not.
If you have any questions or concerns about where I stand on this matter, or others, please always feel free to send me a ping or private message at any time to clarify. I love and respect every single one of my fellow 'students', no matter who they are, how they identify, or who they love.
