The movies are probably the best bet unless you're a fast reader. Skip the extended versions (even though I prefer them). It's a lot to take in at once.

Do NOT watch the Hobbit movies because they ... *sigh* they just weren't good.

xvz - the Lord of the Rings movies are decent. A number of things are different, though not enough to detract from the point of the epic. Now the Hobbit movies were sort of all over the place in terms of storytelling (imo). If you don't mind history books, Tolkien's writings are much in that style.

OMG. I read the series the first time when I was probably 12. I read the entire series probably 4 more times through by the time I was 20. I've read it at least a couple more times since, and seen the movies at least 3 or 4 times since they've come out...

@xvz: apparently I react to potato? Not an allergy but a mild sensitivity...

@xvz: back when i was able to read normal novels (i dont have very high patience these days), i read lotr 3x. i would suggest to both read and watch them. watching it visually helps you understand what the description of stuff in the book. while in the novel, it helps understand the vivid detail of the world that didnt need to explain in the movie.

and also get wikia to ref since were are children of da covid year 2020 xD
