It's a US thing too. I only know from working with public schools tho. No idea about private schools

Most schools are pretty understanding if there are extenuating circumstances

Rereading some of my old favs. Just finished Sunshine by Robin McKinley, which is a really interesting twist on tired vampire tropes and world building that is very engaging. And will probably never have a sequel but I've made my peace with that really

Debating if I wanna reread Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede or The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey next.

There's so many that I love. But the ones I revisit the most are The Protector of the Small quartet by Tamora Pierce and The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix. They both hold a special place in my heart (and my bookshelf).
