@Bioshock: I'm going to guess that the game you tried was either Achaea or one of that company's other games, since they're the main ones with any advertising beyond regular mud circles. (Also their user interface is very nice)

I dont blame you for getting overwhelmed though. MUDs can get super complicated, especially with age. Theres a popular one for roleplay that I want to try called Syndrome MOO, but I got overwhelmed when I first met someone ingame and I ended up quitting in a fit of anxiety lol.

If you ever want to try again, definitely ask around on r/MUD, and don't be afraid to try to talk to others! A lot of muds have chat channels specifically for newbies.

@Priestess of Pie: I found out MUDs via a random aquaintence on Discord who told me about Achaea (which is probably the most popular one at the moment, along with all the others made by Iron Realms. They're about the closest to a mainstream product you'd get.) and then I sort of explored it on my own by going on the r/MUD subreddit, and The MUD Connector. Though a think a lot of people got interested recently thanks to an article on PCGamer about Genesis's relaunch and cleanup.

Probably also helps that a lot of MUDs use browser based clients now as an option, so it's easy as heck to dive in and try one out.

@Glume: I also play roguelikes! I don't know of any MUDs that are similar but considering how big coding is in the community, I'm sure someone has considered it over on r/MUD.

This is a super niche genre of games, but I'm curious to know if there are any Volties that are involved in them too!

For the curious and initiated, here is the wikipedia page for MUDs.
TL;DR:
Multi-User Dungeons are, to put it simply, text-only multiplayer games. When computers were primarily text-only machines, text adventure games were popular (Zork is the most widely known), and these are multiplayer variants. A lot are based off of D&D, but not always, and thanks to technology called screen readers, they're a big hit with the blind community. There are a lot of MUDs that have been running since the early nineties, but it's not uncommon for someone to release a new one, due to the genre being popular amongst coders.

I started trying out MUDs because the text only nature of them allows a more detailed and complicated world than a traditional MMO. I am also a sucker for roleplay, and quite a few have roleplayers in mind.

Currently, I'm trying out a game called The Inquisition - Legacy, but I've played a lot of others. It's definitely a weird genre, but it can be enjoying when in the right mindset.

@dragoness129: That's right! I feel bad not being able to remember though, since I've been following their discord for a while now... ^^;

@Anarchist Beauty: I imagine a lot of people who stayed were either those who donated regularly enough to have items new enough to transfer over, or had friends who refused to jump ship. I almost considered giving it another shot last night, but... No. I'd rather stay here, even if I'm still too shy to post much lol.

@ladykazumi: Yeah, I really should get over it but the whole gameplan just baffles me.

But, that's why I'm here and not there, lol.

And aww, that's sweet! I'm just playing mmos at the moment. Probably going to stay here until I pass out.

@ladykazumi: tbh, it kind of makes me madder that they actually did upgrade some items! But only ones that are new enough.

And I only spent money during their server transfer, too, so I guess screw me for trying to help them, huh?

At least when Avacia (or Avaci? I don't remember but they're going to be Avalyss eventually.) changed their avatars, they just decided to up and make a whole new site. The old one's still around, but they're going to abandon it for the new one later on (after basically giving all users 99% of the items to play around with till then.)

@Anarchist Beauty:

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that's angry about Solia. Though, the site redesign didn't make me as angry as the fact that they took my items! Solia was the first avatar site I had ever spent irl dollars on for items and of course, it was right before they decided 'hey, what if we burned all of our goodwill and just take everything away???'

As a newbie to the fandom who is too lazy to do the workrounds to play as an American non-Japanese speaker, what's the best way to jump into the series? Just the anime? Because I've had cravings for cute historical sword boys for a while, but I wasn't sure how to go about it until now...

@star2000shadow: that one makes me want to practice pixel art again... xD
Posted in CLOSED Posted 4 years ago

@Anarchist Beauty: if it's a show you can binge and also look away from every once in a while without missing much, that'll be perfect.

If you ever want to try podcasts, I can give recommendations!

@star2000shadow: the one you have right now is pretty cute!!
Posted in CLOSED Posted 4 years ago

@star2000shadow: it's all good. I just had my first proper walk in months and it felt really good to leave the house, even if it was to play pokemon go for half an hour lol. Now I'm knitting and binging on spooky podcasts.

What kinda gifs are you hunting for?
Posted in CLOSED Posted 4 years ago

@star2000shadow: good morning! How are you?

@Anarchist Beauty: yeah, that's a mood. I've found it's a good thing to do while watching videos or listening to podcasts, because otherwise I fidget a f lose interest. But then again, i have ADD.

@Lina: I'm the same way. I'd probably be much worse about it too, if my yarn budget wasn't so tight at the moment. XD but right now, I just have the one plush crochet and the one shawl on hold together. Then I plan to make two more shawls before Christmas (one for mom and one for boyfriend's mom)
