The man just smirked as she approached. When she was close enough, he stood up and stepped up to her.

"No need for apologies." he said, slipping his hands around her waist.

"You're worth the wait." he told her.

"No matter what that wait is." he continued, lightly kissing her on the lips.

"Let's see if we can't make your evening a little better than work." he then added with another smile.

But she could tell this wasn't lustful or anything... he was just genuinely happy to have some time with her.

"Honestly, I'm just thrilled you managed to get a break from the front desk." She admitted.

"Come on, let's see if our table is ready." She added wtih a smile.

"Well, people noticed it had been a while, so... yeah, I got time off." he said.

"And yes, let's." he agreed.

Then they checked and found out that they had arrived just in time, and they were escorted to their table.

"Can I start you out with anything?" the server asked.

"Ice water for now." her date replied.

"And a wine list, please." he added.

After the server headed off, Anya just laughed lightly.

"Now, I like how you're such a key employee there, but damn if I don't find it a bit annoying sometimes." She admitted after a few seconds.

"Because, seriously. It's rather irritating to spend so little time with you at times." She then added.

"I'm thrilled to be able to spend time with you tonight."

He sighed lightly.

"I know." he said.

"I... don't like it, either." he told her.

"Admittedly, Sharp's told me that if I want, all I need to do is say the word, and I'll be fully promoted to head of security." he then revealed.

"Essentially, I'd be the manager for all the security guards. It'd be more... well, behind the scenes deskwork, but I'd have more regular hours. Much like a standard 9-5." he went on.

"....I've been considering it." he then admitted to her.

"But I DO enjoy the interactions with those that come through security." he added with a heavier sigh.

"....most of the time, anyway." he muttered at the end.

"Jake, don't take it on account of me. We both work stupid hours." She commented.

"And honestly, when one is working dumb hours, the other is better off doing the same instead of just being bored, alone." She added.

"You make valid points." he admitted.

"I'll talk to him." he said.

"See about getting a couple days off a week." he went on.

"Shouldn't be heard." he then continued.

"At this point, I can ask for almost anything, and get it." he shrugged.

"Suppose that's a perk that comes from being there since the literal start."

"Ah, fine idea!" Jake said, as the server returned with their water, menus for the two of them, and the wine selection.

"Is there anything else right now?" they asked.

"No, nothing." Jake said.

"Very well." the server said in response.

"Then I will be back with complementary fresh-baked bread." they finished, before heading off.

"Let's decide what we want." Jake told Anya.

"And then pick a wine to go with."

"Sounds perfect." Anya agreed with a nod.

Just over an hour later, they were considering whether or not they wanted dessert when Anya froze. There was something about the air, the night, that was ringing bells of alarm, and she coulnd't place it.

"Hey Anya, you ok?" Jake asked with some concern to his voice. Anya just paused, looking at him with her nearly blck eyes.

"I just... something doesn't feel right." She told him honestly. "and I can't place what or why."

Jade was silent, before quickly and subtly scanning the area.

"....hm." he mumbled.

"Doesn't seem like anything's off..." he commented.

"Do you want to leave?" he asked.

"We can forego dessert and just head home if you like." he offered.

"Just in case something IS wrong here..."

"I..." Anya started before sighing,k heavily.

"I really don't want to, but yeah... it might be be----" she started before freezing mid word, he already relatively pale complexion seeming to lose a couple more shades of colour.

"..... J-ja--" She started before he saw what had made her freeze.

She was bleeding, profusely. The material covering her top was slashed, her skin exposed. Exposed and bleeding from what looked to be slashes from her right shoulder down to her left hip.

And they looked bad.

Jake froze when he saw this.

He didn't know what to make of it for the first second, but the rapid flow of the blue liquid from inside her snapped to reality.

The problem was... they were in a pubic place.

Her injuries were severe, and it would only be a matter of time before someone noticed.

He quickly threw his jacket around her shoulders and tried his best to cover her up and stop the blood flow.

"Can you make it to the bathroom, or somewhere out of sight?" he whispered.

"I'll call for help to teleport in and get you to the Unit's med wing."

Anya just brought her hands to the ... honestly, it looked like claw marks... across her torso, breathing hard. It was taking all she could to even forcus on anything for th emoment, well, anything aside from the pain. The fact that something could do this to her, when she's a demon.

"I...." she started, trying to not run into more issues than she could handle for the moment, and definitely trying to keep herself together.

"I think... I think I can. Yeah." She added, before carefully getting to her feet. she knew she had to move fast, as it was something that would most definitely cause alarm and questions - questions neither of them wanted to deal with - if she didn't. Her blood wasn't natural, and it wasn't hard to tell.

"F... Finish here... Meet me a thte Unit... please..." She then said. "I need to move." Her voice was starting to waver a bit, and it wasn't hard to guess why. Overall, she was keeping herself pretty well maintained though, thankfully.

"Go." Jake told her.

"Head out the back door to the alley, it's closest." he said.

"I'll have someone come for you and pay up here." he told her.

She nodded in response, and quickly left the table.

After a quick story about how Anya had received a call about a family emergency, Jake paid for their food and left, but not before calling someone to show up and pick Anya up. They said it would take about 30 seconds, and Jake was reasonably sure that was enough time.

He was back at the Unit in 15 minutes, as he needed to drive there, but once he was through security, he made his way down the medical wing, and awaited someone to tell him how Anya was doing.

To say he was worried was... an understatement. Once he was sure that Anya would be okay, he would allow himself the panic and breakdown that had been threatening to burst out since whatever had happened... happened.

When he arrived, he was seated, and left to wait.

And wait.

And wait some more.

It was about the time that he'd been going to get up and demand some information when Angela approached him.

"Jake, come with me." She said simply, motioning for him to follow her. He didn't moss the fact that she had a good amount of Anya's blood on her, either.

Once they were in her office, she just sighed.

"Have a seat...." She said, to which he did.

"She's really not doing well. What the hell happened?"

"....what?" Jake muttered.

"I mean, we were sitting and eating." he told her.

"We were deciding about dessert, when she stated something didn't feel right." he said further.

"Before we knew it, she had grievous slash wounds that looked like they came from claws from her shoulder to her hip." he went on.

"I covered her with my jacket and sent her to the back alley, where she was picked up by emergency meds here." he continued.

"Were her injuries THAT bad?" he asked.

Angela paused a moment.

".... Jake... she's barely alive." She told him honestly.

"Her torso was... is... basically shredded meat, and it looked like something had honestly attempted to grab her heart." She continued.

"Along with that, there's ... rather alarming wounds on her head, as if something was trying to reach within, or something. I don't know how to explain it. "

Jake's jaw dropped, and his complexion paled.

"Wh... what?" he asked.

"That... no, that... how?" he asked further.

"She was alone for less than 30 seconds." he said.

"How could that have happened!?" he exclaimed.

"What the hell is-!?" he continued to exclaim, almost yelling now, before pausing.

"....will she make it?" he asked.

"That's all that matters."
