Forums General Chit-Chat chrome be laggin'

Voltie — she/her Posted 4 years ago ( 2020/05/27 19:05:04 )

am I the only one who seems to have this issue? My chrome clocks up my RAM so much, makes my mouse lag like crazy whenever i have it open lately.
its always been annoyingly busy but never this bad. already cleaned it up, removed extensions and hid all bookmarks. but its still like HEEEEELLLOOOOOO

might be time to dust off ye ol' firefox
no lag so far :'>

I hope its not actually my pc going kaput

I know chrome uses lots of ram but no problems here with lag.

@vengeance:
Yeah it might just be something with my pc, cause its starting to lag a little with FF too.
I just cant figure it out ;; browsers are the only thing overloading my RAM that I've noticed in task manager

@Jolly: I did a quick google and you can try the following extensions that deal with high ram usage:
Lazy Load Tabs Chrome
Task Limited Chrome

I've noticed that internet anything is just struggling right now. I haven't experienced any particular lag on Chrome, but any I may have run across I most likely dismissed as me having 618916546546549684 tabs open at once.

    hahaha it was that and chrome not having side-scrolling tabs that made me stick to firefox through all these years
    (i say as i'm on chrome right now
    (because i only use a few tabs for alt browsing while working

@vengeance:
thanks! I'll see if these help at all O:
if not I might have to look at my drivers and hardware more closely

@priestess of pie:
yeah normally my pc can handle loads of tabs open. but I guess its true there's more internet usage going on right now and things are getting sluggish.
The fact that its causing my cursor to lag more than anything makes me think its more RAM related tho o;

@pachi:
I used to use firefox the most back when I was a kid. But now all my stuff is set up on chrome and I'm too lazy to set up firefox again
woe is me having to log into things again xd

Chromium type browsers are very heavy on memory. Firefox is less so. You want to edit your firefox dom.ipc.processCount to equal 4 or 8 for optimum settings. Ram usage should be significantly less. I also highly suggest using the addon tree-style tab.

If you need even more powerful restrictions to memory check out seamonkey.
