And she gets super excited and raises her voice up several levels that it startles me:
"Do you know what your name...REMINDS ME OF???!"
And in my head I'm like: she's gonna say it....
I respond: "I have a guess. haha."
She puts her hand down on my desk oddly assertively. "Like the-"
My head: Here it comesssss
Her: "THE LITTLE MERMAID!"
I just frankly nod my head: "Yup."
She's like: "So you're parents wanted a mermaid, huh?"
Me: "Nope, I was born before her movie."
She sighs disappointed: "So why did they pick Ariel then?"
The conversation feels too long to me lol I have work to do but I don't want to be rude so I answer:
"They just looked up biblical names is all."
She's all happy again: "So you're a Christian then! Or catholic?"
And this is where I fucked up and my trying to be polite and answer questions should have ended before we got to this point lmao.
I instinctively state the truth: "No, I'm an atheist." And as soon as I said it I regretted it and she shifted completely (lmao) she turned away from my desk and sat in the waiting chair while I was finally able to prepare her papers for her and try to get things back on track and change the tone to more pleasant and /her/ focused.
She eventually asks: "You must hate your name then, huh?" Which I dont, so I told her it didn't bother me.
And hey what's one fuck up? Good ol' Ariel needs to hit a home run of fuck ups duh.
Then my dumbass decides to say: "Besides, when I looked it up it turns out Angel Ariel is pretty controversial! And in many depictions people can't seem to translate if it was good ol' lion/altar of God or a rebel angel of doom. Haha."
(She wasn't amused.)
(And I'm actively sitting here self loathing waiting for it to be her turn and get out of the waiting room because she isn't happy with me lmao.)
