I'd say keep talking, maybe she'll spill something to help us dig deeper into her mind! Keep guards up though, try to lure her even further away,?
Maybe she'll get stuck in the sludge making her immobile? Gives us an advantage. Static is lighter, maybe he'll get out easier?

Perhaps taking to her while floating over the murk. If she is really determined to follow, she might just loose the cleaver to the water. Perhaps the cleaver is what is making her crazy.

@Godawful: Probably no one loved her so now she thinks the way to make people love her is to trap them in cages so they have no other option? Idk man, I haven't read this book :P

I like the idea that the cleaver has some kind of a dark hold on her but why would we need a mirror?
I agree, keep our distance but keep talking to her. Figure out why she doesn't just try to do nice things to make friends. Keeping people prisoner will only make them resent you. But if you're nice and you don't try to force them to stay, they will be more likely to come back on their own.
@Dowan: I don't think a mirror will help; she's already aware of her appearance. It was mentioned in the very first post that she uses polish and jewelry to distract away from her less than sightly features.
Maybe just hug her and say you love her xD
