I remember at summer camp once, I really surprised a girl when she said something and I was taken aback by it. She seemed really surprised I was shocked because I'm the kind of person who usually hears something and adjusts my perspective to see it in their eyes, so I can see what they mean. That one time though, I never adjusted myself, and said something like "what?" She explained further and I saw the fault of my ways five minutes later. I wonder...did I ever apologize to her..?
I think I was 15 at the time, or 16.

@Dipper: At least you try to look at things from other people's perspectives! Even if you don't always get it right away, you do make the effort and I think that counts for a lot. I'm sure she recognized that if she knows you well.
