I can find some mochi here in some of the Asian stores, not fresh, but boxed. My problem is, I'm too picky with most of the flavors they have, so I don't buy it often lol. I love the sesame kind and am looking for a good matcha kind.

I love sesame! There was a place in San Jose that made it fresh, and once you have fresh it's hard to have the old packed stuff.
They made all kinds of flavors. My fav was actually a non-tranditional flavor. It was peanut better!

Happy New Year everyone!!
Peanut butter mochi sounds pretty yummy. My fiance would be all over that lol. I don't know of anywhere here that has fresh mochi, but maybe I just haven't found it yet.

Fresh mochi is pretty rare I think? I'm sure the pandemic killed the shop too. So even if I went back to San Jose I couldn't get it anymore. It was just soo good! Makes the stuff you can get the asian stores taste stale and not as flavorful.
Do you like any kinds of mochi?

I hate how Covid has killed good businesses too, which is why I have no problem spending a little too much on food if it's small business lol.
Let's see, one of the best mochi I've ever had was from my third grade teacher who made hers with toasted coconut on top. I don't think hers was quite the traditional way of making it, but it had similar texture at least. I've tried packaged mango and matcha mochi (separate flavors in the same box) but they weren't that great. I'm sure they'd have been much better fresh. I think my favorite packaged mochi I've had so far is this sesame one, although I can find this one in local stores. And I love me some mochi ice cream, which I see is becoming more popular and easy to find in stores.

Agreed. I always want to support small business especially food ones! Luckily there is a lot of food options in DC and lots of people like to support them.
That's cool. I heard you can 'cheat' make a home made one by getting mochi flour and then adding water.
Oh I've had that mochi. it's good. I like that Ice Cream mochi is more popular, but also then people just think that's how mochi comes they don't realize that it's a Hawaiian mashup.
