unsalted butter is better for like... baking
but also for people who can't have salt

xD I always wondered why recipes call for "unsalted butter" I'm like... but all butter is unsalted. it's just butter.

I just use salted butter for baking. I don’t bake that often and most recipes call for unsalted butter but then also that you add a pinch of salt lol

well the actual salt is to cause a chemical reaction usually to get things to rise and whatnot. like in cornstarch cookies. Maybe if it's in the butter it doesn't work?
Maybe it’s just the brand that I buy, but the salted butter that I get is only barely salted. Never thought about the different brand would salt their butter different amounts.

Baking is basically chemistry - I'm pretty sure salted butter might throw off the chemical reaction and make the baked good not as good as it could've been. BRB while I go look that up to make sure

@Vixen: Yeah just a pinch. Also my aunt makes cookies with a secret recipe which changes a few things around but she also doubles the amount of salt and her cookies don’t taste salty, but there is something about them that you just want to keep eating them. So I don’t mind using salted butter in my baking. If my aunt does it and she is good enough to sell her cookies it’s good enough for me lol
i'm sure it's just part of the healthy drive. lower everyone's salt counts, but you still need salt to do the chemical reaction. So salted butter probably still works fine. that's my guess based on that.
Yeah maybe that’s why?

Oh! Salted butter contains more water than unsalted butter, according to a study. Aside from that, the only difference is using unsalted butter allows you to control EXACTLY how much salt is in a baked good.

huh. that's interesting.

yeah chemistry \o/
i didn't realize salt contributed to rising.
i always though it was just yeast for the hardcore bubbly rising XD

I'm not sure - they tested a variety of butter but only reported the unsalted American butter versus the salted American butter.
