Maddie was quiet for a moment as he spoke, keeping her gaze outside. He sounded like a gentleman, but she knew people could be deceiving. She was all too familiar with that.

She moved her gaze to the mirror, to glance at him when he asked about where she usually stayed, then glanced back out of the window to watch the rain. "I don't usually go to shelters.." She spoke softly. "I have my own, but some people wrecked it so I was looking for somewhere else to build a new one.." She spoke quietly.

Allen, taking her question as an answer that she was interested, nodded some and slowly offered her the small box of herbs in his hand. "You can come and go as you please, to keep helping Mr. Tanner in the nursery." He spoke calmly, his smile not faltering. "I'd hate to be the one to rob him of such a wonderful assistant." He added gently

. He could tell she helped him take care of the plants by how they smelled and felt. They were healthy, and happy.

Maddie followed closely behind the man as he led her to his car, keeping her eyes on the ground as they walked and craddling her injured arm.

She was quiet as she got inside his car and rested against the seat, keeping her focus on the raindrops as they hit the window. "Maddie.." She said quietly after he had gotten off the phone. "My name.." She murmured.

Allen shifted his head when he heard Adira and shook his head at her apology. "No need to apologize for her behavior, Miss Adira. You didn't strike me." He spoke calmly, offering her a gentle smile. She sounded awefully troubled, even with thanking him for not revealing her whereabouts. "Do you live with that woman?" He asked, turning to fully face her. No one deserved that kind of treatment. "Your Aunt?" He asked.

He pondered her question, and held the small box of his herbs in his hand. "Actually, if you wanted, I could always use an assistant of my own. I live alone you see, and all you would have to do is care for the house. You could stay there, and escape your aunt." He offered.

Maddie blinked and shook her head some, carefully tightening her arms around herself. "N..no.. It's not that at all I just.." She spoke quietly, glancing at him with her eyebrows knit together as she watched him.

Slowly, she unwrapped her arms from around herself and began to stand. She brought her good arm to hold her opposite arm, which held onto the blazer draped around her. "Thank you.. People don't nornally worry about a homeless person freezing in the rain." She spoke quietly, pressing her lips together.

"I'll go..with you.." She murmured shyly.

Being blind had more than one disadvantage, like unable to see the hand that soon came down across his face. He stumbled in his surprise and turned his head to the side, taking a moment to process the event. Words would get him no where with this woman, but he'd try to be a little more direct.

"I think it's time you left." He spoke calmly, turning hus head as if to look at her. "Your niece isn't here, and you're causing a scene." He said quietly.

Maddie slowly pressed her back against the wall behind her as the male lowered himself to her eye level, though she didn't move much more than that. She wanted to appeared as small as she possibly could right now. People didn't normally talk to her, or any other homeless person on the street.

She paused however, when he spoke, and soon explained his motive. He wanted her to go with him, because he didn't like the idea of her sitting out here? It was like he was talking to a stray cat. Besides that, she was already freezing.

But, it was better than staying out here all night.

"Go.. Where?" She asked quietly. Where was he wanting to take her? Home? A complete stranger?

@CycloneKira:

Allen paused wheb the girl offered her name, and felt a small smile tug at his lips.

Adira..

His smile faded when he noticed the girl run off, and soon heard the woman's shrieking. Then he felt a a hand on his shoulder. The woman smelled like alcohol. "My apologies Miss, I haven't seen anyone in quite sometime." He said, turning as if to look at her.

Allen was normally a calm and collected person, but he knew no one deserved to be treated or talked to as such. He heard the woman and Mr. Tanner exchange words and he gently moved her hand from his shoulder.

Allen simply nodded when she mentioned going to check, and went back to the plants around him. He couldn't see, but he could feel and smell. And the scent was relaxing in itself. He delicately held a leaf of a large wooly lambs ear, and ran his thumb over the plant. "No one understands just how important each and every herb is now days." He spoke quietly as if talking to an old friend.

When she returned, he slowly stood and carefully took the small box from her. "Thank you Miss, please give Mr. Tanner my thanks as well." He said, before turning to leave.

Maddie had started dozing, whether from exhaustion or the cold eating away at her, when she suddenly felt something warm being placed around her. She slowly opened her multi colored eyes and lazily glanced at the man standing before her. Was she alright? It took her a moment to process the question directed at her. "I'll live, I guess.." She spoke quietly, "Shelters are closed." She murmured, bitting her lip when she tried to move her arm to better position it.

Her eyes however, never left him. He didn't look like someone who would run her off.. He spoke to her, and he put something over her.

Allen paused when he heard the woman speak, and lifted hus head in her direction. "Ah, my apology's Miss" He spoke gently. "I'm a frequent customer of Mr. Tanner, do you know if he has an order ready for Allen? It's an assortment, I usually come once every couple of months for them." He asked politely.

Maddie didn't stop to look twice at the man driving the car she'd just ran by, her destination being set and her goal clear, getting out of the rain. Maybe find a bite to eat. She leaned against the back wall of the restaurant, thankful to have a cover over her head for the time being.

Seeing no one around, she allowed herself to lower down in a more comfortable half-sitting position with her back firmly against the wall and her arms loosely wrapped around herself. She was hungry, soaking, freezing, and beyond tired, but living on the streets wasn't easy.

If anyone saw her and shooed her away like most homeless 'vermin', she'd just have to find somewhere else to keep out of the weather.

Allen allowed his nose to guide him, as well as his other senses until he was sure he had reached his destination and easily wandered to the sections he normally found the herbs he needed. It always relaxed him, coming to the market like this. It took a little bit of time to remember where the herbs were, but they seemed to always be in the same place, which made it easier to locate them the more he came here.

He had picked up on an unfamiliar scent, but he wouldn't let his curiosity roam. "Good evening Mr. Tanner." Allen greeted politely.

It was late and raining, so there weren't many people walking about, but there seemed to be a lot of people driving, Maddie was glad for this. It meant less people to worry about bumping into. After resting for a moment, she went to start walking again. Where was she anyway? All that running and she'd gotten herself lost. She usually stuck to allies and back ways, but she seemed to be in a cluster of buildings near the road and sidewalk.

She raised her head when she came to a cross road and strained to see the cross-walk light. It was blinking, but maybe she'd have enough time to cross and get to the other side which had a few buildings. One looked like a fancy restaurant, which meant she could duck behind it for the night and get of the rain. So she hoped no one was coming, and ran to cross the street while the walking light rapidly blinked.
