After an eternity of running down twisting alleyways, Vivienne soon finds herself long out of breath and too exhausted to go any further. She falls against a cool brick wall, panting heavily before turning to gaze at the pursuing creature.

It... isn't the cutest cat she has ever seen. But taking the time to truly look over the small little creature, she realizes something.

It’s had every opportunity to attack, to leap at her, to strike and take her life. And yet all it has done is follow, and look up at her with those eyes. All those eyes...

Those eyes look so lonely.

Vivienne feels a tug in her heartstrings, and she pulls away from the wall, finally approaching the cat. Its ears perk with excitement as it sits before her, and she kneels to give it a pet, smiling sadly.

"Is this what you were looking for...?" She whispers gently, and it mews so sweetly in return.

It only lasts a minute, before the cat finally pulls away, giving her hand one simple lick before running into the shadows of the alley once more. She smiles faintly, giving it a small wave as it disappears from sight.

"Ma'am! Are you okay?!"

Vivienne jumps with a start, holding her chest as she turns to see Officer Garry running into the alley behind her. She smiles and nods, before glancing down in his arms. A content, familiar beige cat is resting calmly in his arms.

"I heard a shout so I came as quickly as I could! I would have been here sooner, but uh... Well! I saw this cat in a tree and figured, you know, that's not a good place for her! And you wouldn’t believe how hard climbing down a tree holding a cat is! Uh… Hey, do you know who she belongs to?"

Vivienne giggles faintly, "I think I have an idea..." She reaches out to take Timberland from his arms, before tilting her head, "You're investigating creatures of Voltra, right?"

"Yes, ma'am!"

"Well..." She smiles softly, giving Timberland a gentle pet, "I think I know one you can mark off your list."

It was a cold, rainy day. A child sat beside the street cradling a small furry body. “Wake up, Midnight.” The child sniffled.
A woman runs out of the house towards the child, holding her jacket over her head.
“Honey, I’m so sorry. Why don’t you two come inside the house.”
Sitting in front of a warm fire, the mother snuggled the child as they held onto their fur baby so tightly. The mom did her best to soothe the child’s broken heart.
Curiosity had gotten the best of Midnight. One small window of opportunity and Midnight dashed outside to explore the world with an abrupt end. Midnight was struck by lightning. Their fur frayed to the tips.
It was getting late. The mother tried her best to explain to her young child why Midnight wasn’t waking up and why they had to say goodbye.
“Goodbye?” the child questioned. “But where is Midnight going?”
When the child dozed off, the mother took the opportunity to prepare Midnight for their final resting place.
The next day, the family drove to the grandparents’ farm. This was where Midnight would be placed for their eternal slumber. After the family had settled in, everyone gathered behind the barn where other furry family members had their beds made. At least Midnight wouldn’t be alone. A wooden box containing Midnight was lowered into the ground, the child managed a few final words, then sprinkled some of Midnight’s favorite treats and dirt atop of it.
At supper, the child was clearly still in distress after their final goodbye to their furry companion. The family tried their best to console the child, but the child’s emotions got the best of them. Wanting to be alone the child ran to the large, somewhat dilapidated barn.
Hiding so no one could find them, the child tucked away high up on a landing behind some dusty, old storage boxes. The family was aware the child ran off into the barn and knew they were in no danger. Time had passed and out of pure boredom the child decided to search through these old belongings. Then a bright light flashed, followed by a loud BANG!
It startled the child causing them to knock over a tall stack of books they sorted. One book opened and appeared to be flipping through pages on its own. The child just stared, blinked a few times, and rubbed their eyes. Am I seeing, what I’m seeing? The child thought. No, it’s just the wind.
After the book settled down and sat open on a page, the child crawled over. The child was shocked with what they saw. Was this a way to wake Midnight?
A weird coincidence, but the specifications were depicted as follows:
Laying in a wooden box within the earth. On a rainy night, when lightning strikes. With a sprinkle of their favorite treat, soon to return from their sleepy retreat.
Another flash and a BANG! Glass shattered from the window at the back of the barn. The child screamed out in a fright. Silence.
A low, vibrating grumble was coming for a creature slowly approaching. “Midnight?”
As the creature stepped into the moonlight, the child became frightened.
They dashed back to their grandparents’ home, straight to their bed, and covered their head. Morning came and the smell of pancakes filled the house. Maybe it was just a dream.
As the family van left the farm, Midnight wondered why they were left behind. It is said that Midnight wanders in search of their owner, but due to their appearance, no one has ever shown Midnight any compassion. Upon the sight of Midnight, it is believed bad luck will strike again.

"Of all nights for Timberland to escape..."

Vivienne holds her shoulders nervously as she walks down the dark streets of Voltra. It’s late, sure, but it isn't normally this empty. It only makes it all the more eerie as she walks alone, searching for her missing cat.

      "Timberland? Timberland..."

Despite how often she’s called, she isn't getting a response. She begins to debate calling Vanora, but quickly convinces herself out of it. That would just be silly, wouldn’t it? She’s overreacting, isn’t she? Besides, Vanora left earlier to report important information to the VPD. It would be rude to interrupt.

Seeing an alley up ahead, Vivienne lets out a shaky sigh, steeling herself. If there was any place for a sneaky cat to hide, that would be it, right?

      "Timberland...? Oh!"

Peeking nervously into the alley, she’s delighted when the silhouette of a small cat greets her. Letting out a sigh of relief, she quickly (but quietly) sneaks up behind the creature, reaching out to pick it up.

"Silly girl, where have you been-"

      She freezes.

What she’s looking at... Definitely is not Timberland. It’s dark, it’s scruffy, and its eyes... Oh, so many eyes...

On impulse, she recoils, looking around nervously, before glancing back at the creature, "Oh uh... Oh! Hello I... Uhm... I'm sorry I..."

With each step she takes back, the "cat" takes one step forward, tilting its head curiously. Is that curiosity? Its intent is so difficult to discern.

Vivienne swallows hard, keeping her eyes trained nervously on the approaching creature. Could this be it? The creature that the Monster Task Force is searching for? Could she be its next target? She isn't prepared to find out, and without warning, turns to sprint down the other end of the alley.

She doesn’t get very far before nearly stumbling over her feet, coming to a screeching halt. She pants, ragged, eyes tearing up in fear.

Before her, once more, stands the cat. And once more, it’s stepping towards her.

"H-How?" She breathes, swallowing harshly as she takes another step back. Whatever its intent is, she isn't prepared to give in so easily!
