Just as she said what she did, and just as the headache was starting to get worse, she heard a voice.

"Hey." he said.

"You don't know what that is?" he asked.

"You've felt it before." he commented.

When she turned and looked at the source of it, she saw the one that had been arguing with the imposter a couple of days ago.

"Hello." he greeted her.

"Been a bit since we last saw each other, Callie."

She looked to him, a quizzical look on her face.

"I... hello." She said simply.

"Sorry... but if we are supposed to know each other, due to things beyond my control I honestly don't remember you." She added, her wording a lot more relaxed than what he would remember.

"......." he was silent for a moment.

"Uh-huh." he mumbled.

"Well, at least you're more earnest than the other one." he said.

"Whatever." he mumbled.

"You're not claiming to be the friend I remember, so... I guess there's that." he went on.

"You're very similar to that imposter, though." he then added.

Callie just sighed.

"Honestly, that doesn't surprise me." She admitted after a second or two.

"I've been told I have a very generic face." She added with a smile, hoping to lead him on or something. The last thing she needed was for someone else to know that she was one that was being hunted for, after all. That wouldn't b e good at all.

Granted, for some reason, she was pretty without incident regarding that, she'd noticed. That was a relief, at least.

"..." he was silent again for a moment.

"I'm so sure." he replied.

"I'll say it right now, looking back at it, compared to that imposter, you are the spitting image of my friend." he told her.

"Tell me." he said.

"Who are you?" he asked.

"My name's Kai." he introduced himself.

"Normally I wouldn't poke around, but something inside me is telling me there's more to you than meets the eye. You ring SO many familiarity bells in my mind it's not funny." he commented further.

"You already know my name, as you addressed me." Callie commented.

"But my name is Callie." She added with a shrug.

"And I'm currently dealing with a head that really doesn't like me at the moment. You have any idea as to what the hell is going on? Is there something aboard the ship? Do you think maybe I caught something in town?" She asked, not really expecting him to be able to answer her. She was hoping that maybe he'd have some sort of something he could offer in terms of informaton though.

"See, that's confusing to me." he said.

"You're complaining about something you've experienced before." he told her.

"Seriously." he went on.

"Cruxes have the ability to sense another crux. Each crux is tied to another one." he explained.

"And what you're experiencing is the sensation of being near the crux that YOU are connected with.

"I'd put money down that it's you, too." She commented.

"As it gets notably worse when you're around, compared to when you aren't." She added.

"But ... I've never experienced this before, as far as I can recall."

"I know a quick fix." he told her.

He then approached and extended his hand.

"Take my hand." he said.

"Seriously. It's as simple as that." he said further.

"You'd be amazed the difference it's going to make."

Callie was silent for a moment before sighing and doing as he said. It was at about the point that she didn't care - she'd take any means of quelling what she was feeling by this point. As it was about an inch from driving her to drastic measures.

". . . what the hell...?" She asked, her voice curious, but not entirely surprised. She sounded almost as if she wasn't sure what to make of it, of what had happened.

".. . . . so... your name is Kai, huh?" She then asked after another second or two.

"I... want to say that's a shortened form of your time... Kaitie is what I'm thinking, but that can't be right... right?" She asked with a bit of a sigh.

Kai just smirked.

"That's not my name." he said.

"But it IS what you called me when we were kids together." he told her.

"Which is more than enough proof for me." he reasoned.

He then sighed, and shook his head.

"Lissa, what happened?" he asked her.

"How could you forget about me?" he asked further.

Callie was silent before shaking her head lightly. As she did so, he could see, easily, the light lavender marking was barely visible beneath her hair.

"That's just it... I honestly have no idea." She told him honestly.

"I just know that I woke up here with an elf a bit ago. Then had an adventure involving a giant spider." She then said with a light laugh.

"But at least ... well... things are all right overall...?" She paused a moment before snapping her fingers.

"Oh! Right. I'm not alone. Look, I know that those like us are ... hunted for. Let that other broad take the hit for me." She paused a moment. "I know that's mean, but ... honestly, I'd rather not be hunted down. This is survival of the fittest this time."

Again, Kai was silent for a moment, before sighing heavily.

"Yeah." he said.

"I noticed you with the elf earlier, and guessed it was you. As such, I walked away from that argument, allowing the public to think that she's you... and allowing her to think that she's fooled me." he explained.

"Because... well... you're right." he admitted.

"If she wants to take the light away from you, and onto her, then she'll have to take the bad along with the good." he reasoned.

"But the fact that you've lost your memory is... extremely worrisome." he then told her.

"What could have done such a thing...?" he wondered aloud.

"That's the thing... no one is rightly sure." Callie told him with a sigh.

"And I wish I could give some sort of ... well... anything regarding it, but it's all lost on me." She added.

"Rather infuriating, if I'm being honest." She paused before smirking slightly.

"Although, seems some things ar ebreaking through. I don't think I'm a lost cause, but I'm certainly... not exactly what one would expect."

"I suppose that's the best I can hope for right now." Kai muttered.

He then sighed and sat down beside her.

"Look..." he said.

"I'll understand if you want nothing to do with me." he told her.

"I'm just happy you're alive, and not missing." he said further.

"...I was really worried when my friend just disappeared without a trace. And I got scared." he admitted. "The fact that that woman would dare impersonate you infuriated me, because I feared she was disrespecting... well... your potential death." he continued.

"Now that I know you're alive, I won't let her bother me." he then said.

"If anything, it makes it laughable that the REAL you is so close to her, and she doesn't even realise it." he laughed.

"And you don't have to take off. Your... hair and everything before makes it apparent that you're just like Adym and I." she continued.

"we're trying to find all we can since the two of us are potentially insane to try and stop the asshole in charge of this bullshit."

"Fair enough." he said.

"It's either that or hide out until we're eventually found." he reasoned.

"May as well go on the offensive." he shrugged.

"...well, even though you're not fully you, it's good to see you again." he told her.

"I really do wish I could say the same." Callie commented with a sigh.

"But it seems the fates weren't kind enough to grant me that." She added as she looked out over the water.

"Any particular reason why you're crossing the ocean?" She asked suddenly, her voice curious. If he didn't want to answer, that wouldn't be a problem, but she was curious, if nothing else.

"....yeah." Kai responded.

"Two reasons." he said.

"One is because I heard that you were on your way here, and wanted to spend time with you." he told her. "That ended up being the imposter, but it worked out anyway, kind of." he continued.

"I get to spend time with you, but... it's bittersweet because of your memory." he sighed.

"The other is because I want to get to the other continent." he continued.

"See if I can reconnect with another old friend that I haven't seen in a while."

"Another friend? While I'm not surprised you have friends and the like, I'm surprised about the implication you gave of not having had any contact for awhile." She added.
