"Oh, without a doubt." Rylie agreed with a laugh.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he already knows about your strength. We're not far from the inn.' She added as they walked, at a far more leisurely rate than if they were speeding along.

"It'll be good to see my friend again though. Not many people in this world will give me the time of day, to be honest."

Ash just sighed quietly.

"Yeah." he said.

"He's great to have." he agreed as they approached the inn.

When they stepped inside and looked around, Rylie felt... different.

Something seemed... off.

Like this wasn't the place that they would visit every so often. Even though it clearly was.

"Something feels... weird here, Rylie..." Ash commented.

Rylie paused a moment before sighing.

".... agreed." She admitted before approaching the front desk.

"Hey, bossman around?" She asked.

"If he isn't, lemme know where he is? I ... got some information for him."

The man looked at her, a bit of a concerned look in his eyes.

"Hey, Rylie." he said.

"You can speak to the boss, but it won't be what you're thinking." he told her.

"...why?" Ash asked.

"Mr. Azazel is... not here, any longer." the man replied.

"He had to leave."

There was a bit of a concerned look to her almost instantly.

"Devon... did something happen?" She asked, a threat very well veiled in her words and voice, but he knew her well enough that he could easily identify that there may very well be an issue, depending on the answer.

"Why'd he leave? this place was his baby."

"But!" he then said, raising his hands defensively.

"He DID leave something." he told her.

"Something for the two of you." he went on.

"He did? What?" Ash asked.

"Come on." Devon said.

"Let's go down to his old room." he told them, starting to head off.

Rylie was silent before glancing back at Ash and shrugging.

"Let's go then." She said before falling into step behind Devon, knowing that it would be better that they weren't left behind. She couldn't deny she was curious, and confused.

What the hell could he have left for us...? she wondered as they walked. She didn't ask though, as she realised they would find out soon enough.

". . . how long ago did Az leave?" She asked

"Almost a year ago." Devon responded.

"He didn't want to leave, and he stalled as long as he could, but eventually he said he couldn't wait any longer." he went on.

"He left the inn, and put a close friend of his in charge. Fynn." he then informed them. Fynn was a good guy, and trustworthy. And while they were friends, he was nowhere near as close to her as Azazel was.

"...he looked really guilty and sad as he did so, too." he then mumbled as they entered the room... that looked like it'd been untouched, except for a fine layer of dust on everything.

Devon then went to the bed, pushed it aside, opened up a small hidden compartment underneath it, and pulled out a wooden box. He then handed it to Rylie.

"Said only YOU would be able to open it." he told her.

"At any rate, I need to get back to manning the desk. I'll leave you two here to process this." he finished, before leaving them there.

Rylie was silent for a moment before nodding.

"All right. Thank you, Devon." She said before sitting on the bed.

"can't believe he's gone." she admitted.

"Like... fuck. this place was his baby. Wonder if he left anything saying where." she mused as she looked to what she was given. After looking the box over, she paused, her gaze resting on the lock. She didn't say anything before just chuckling lightly.

"Well, let's see..." She said quietly, her fingers grazing the lock. When nothing happened, she paused for a moment before reaching up and removing her ribbon, her head staying in place for the moment. The mana that was woven into the mana though, as she wrapped it around the lock, caused the lock to crack, a lot. After replacing the ribbon, she broke the weakened lock, opening it.

Inside, she found a few things. On top of it all was a letter. She set the box aside as she read, letting Ash go through it if he so desired.

Ash looked at her as she looked at the letter, before looking in the box.

"....huh?" he mumbled.

Rylie, the letter began.

I waited as long as I could. But I can't wait any longer. It seems that there's an emergency happening elsewhere in the world, and I was found. My help has been requested, and seeing as there is nobody else that can do this, seemingly, I have to.

Admittedly, I CAN decline, but I have to think of what is best for this realm, the people in it, and... well, you and Ash.

However, I am not so callous and mysterious to just disappear without telling you where I am. I'm in North America now. In San Diego, to be more precise. Working for an organization called 'The Unit'.

If you are ever in that neck of the woods, please come see me. It's been a while already, and I DO miss seeing you and Ash.

Rylie just sighed before looking to the box.

"You could have looked through it all, if you wished." She commented as she grabbed the box, and passed the letter to him, in case he wanted to read it.

As he accepted it, she pulled the items out of the box. First, was a pair of gloves, and she just smirked at Ash.

"These ... sure as hell won't fit me." She commented.

"Pretty sure they're meant for you." She added with a smile as she set them on the bed for him to grab when he was done with th eletter before retrieving what seemed to be the last thing.

A simple bottle. It was dark, she couldn't tell what was it was that was within, but as she unccorked it and took a sniff, she knew.

It was some of that delectable nectar that he'd created. With a laugh, she corked it again, and noticed the ribbon around it, safe.

". . . he really is a sweetheart." She commented.

Ash finished reading the letter, and set it down.

"....Rylie..." he said quietly.

"What now?" he asked.

"Mr. Azazel's in North America now." he said.

"He's not here to offer us shelter and stuff. And he's not here to talk to." he went on.

"...I miss him." he mumbled quietly, before picking up the gloves.

"These feel... weird." he said.

"Not in a bad way. Just... weird." he told her.

"But I feel like they'll be... useful... actually."

"How about we head over to North America?" She asked.

"Could be worthwhile to travel." She added before pausing a moment.

"Plus... if you want to avoid your mother, might just be a good idea to get out of the area she's in."

"All right then." he said.

"Yeah, let's go." he told her, looking around the room.

"......." he was silent, before going over and straightening a picture that was a little crooked.

"Just wanted to do that." he told her.

"And... I guess... to say goodbye to this place." he mumbled, sadness in his tone.

"Should we go and say goodbye to Devon as well?" he asked her.

"Seems rude to just disappear on him." he reasoned as they left, making sure the door was locked from the inside before they shut it.

"He's been good to us, after all." She added with a soft, almost hesitant, smile.

It didn't take long before they made their way upstairs again.

"Thank you, Devon." She said as they reached the front desk.

"Are you all right here with him?" She then asked, her voice curious.

"I'm happy here. And I'm happy to keep working here." he went on.

"I got a pay-raise, after all, and I would have been the new owner, if not for the fact that it'd be WAY too much stress for me." he then said with a chuckle.

"Fynn's got a much better head for that stuff than I do." he said.

"But don't be strangers, hey?" he asked of them.

"Azazel may be gone, but I'M still here." he told them.

"And I will be for the foreseeable future."

Devon was surprised to hear that, but then smiled in response.

"Heh. Fair enough." he replied.

"Go and see your friend, then." he told them.

"If if you ever come across Azazel along your travels..." he went on, winking at her. "...tell him to come and stop by. This place just isn't the same without him." he told her.

"Nobody ran a tighter ship than that man." he commented further.

"They way he threw out drunks? Perfection." he added with a chuckle.
