It just depends on why you're collecting. If you want them to hold value then yes you want the real thing. If you just want something cute to display then not as big of a deal. There is the issue of supporting the creators, but that can also be argued depending on how much is being charged, if the figure is even still in print, and a variety of other factors.
I don't care about value. Infact I am of the opinion of "Never buy something in hopes of making money out of it later". The original figures where pretty much blind figures. So unless someone was selling a full set you had no idea which figure you where going to get.

I guess after browsing around on alie I will stick to the originals. I saw some non stock pictures and the material they used looked like cheap plastic. I could see right away they where fake.

back in the 80-90s they made this line of fantasy figures that at the time, were very pricy and could be worth up to hundreds for one figure. and my mom loved them and any time she had money or somebody wanted to get her a gift, they'd get her those
she kept the authentication cards and everything, and always said you know, if anything bad happened at least she would have those to sell as backup
well my grandma was telling me this and I didn't want to sell them since they something thats meaningful, but I looked them up out of curiosity
YEAH IN BETWEEN THEN AND NOW THEY DROPPED SO HARD IN VALUE?? nobody wants them anymore and they produced too many so like.... they sell for like $12 each if you're lucky

Yeh stuff like that happens. I do have a bunch of McDonalds figures that are worth some money. Not like huge amounts but like between $20-50 dollars. I have a whole book on those figures.
I don't have any. I do have a Marth Amibo though.

TwT I bought a 75th anniversary Nightwing years ago, ex stole him. He is now currently worth close to 100-200$. Had a Young Justice Robin that my uncle broke. Fucker is 60-75$ now. Never replacing either.
