So... I haven't been on this website in about 3 years and it shocks me that this place is still up.

TBH, I kinda miss it, but after seeing a few other posts, the site seems to have gone dead? Like, the last announcement was 2 years ago? Just ouch... X_X;;

I remember when the site first launched, it was so lively. :) But I think after the first shut down (I will not be getting into this history cuz its a lot and my memories are hecka fuzzy), the site kinda... Died off? Like a lot of usual people who were active came back but didn't post as often, or just ended up not coming back at all. Its a shame since I really do like this site, still do, but never could afford to donate anything to the site.

Does anyone have any memories from the site they'd like to share? Feel free to post them here if you want. :)

I joined around the time the Vibrance Day 2021 event was going on, so off the top of my head, participating in the event was a fun memory for me. Also, I'd spend a lot of time playing Jigsaw and remember getting faster at doing some puzzles, even at difficult levels. The first time I attempted doing a puzzle on Impossible mode, it took me 3 days to finish it. @@; Other than that, I don't really have any share-worthy memories, tbh. ^^; Aside from complimenting people's avatars and posting here and there, I mostly kept to myself over the years.

Yeah, this site hasn't been that active in some time, unfortunately. It used to be a buzzing beehive, I remember that. The blackout and then seemed to be doing okay and then slowly went back down. I think the hardest thing is that most of the community who were invested in avatar sites have grown up, had families, adult jobs and very little time for the things we used to enjoy like this site.. makes me so sad. Now I come on and lurk every now and then to see if anyone is here lol

I've been on and off this site but mostly just lurking... I feel like with how manipulative and scary social medias are becoming maybe sites like this one that is just simple forum with cute graphics may have a comeback. Or I hope so.

I'm really going to miss Voltra if it does shut down. I really love the clothes, accessories, the dress up feature, as well as the NPCs here too! I hope someone from the staff would at least update us someday.

I find myself visiting one in a month or week, just to see how things are going and to make a post on my Undercurrent thread about how things are going on my end.

I wasn't here for that event, but most of the events on the site was pretty fun. :)
I also know how that is. Most of the time, I kept to myself as well. I know I mostly hung out in a few of the forms. I hung out in an Alien themed one all the time, it was one of my favorite spots to chat on.

I know most of the people I talked to were either my age or a tad bit older than me. I was 23 when I made my account back when the site first launched. I remember joining since I figured it would be a good place to break off from Gaiaonline since I was there most of the time. Plus it didn't help that I got sick of their BS. xD
I know when the black out happened, I was super active in Voltra's official discord. Then when it came back online, I was active here for a few months before my depression hit me like a brick wall.

Hopefully that will be the case. I know I've been seeing people on tiktok mention sites like Gaiaonline every so often, but mostly as a way to provide a free resource for OC creation or "Hey do you remember this website?" kind of thing. I haven't seen anyone mention this website, but then again, it was kinda niche. I believe I found this website through facebook, funny enough.

Honestly? Same. I know there was another website I was a part of that was pretty similar to Voltra in size, but it shut down out of the blue. I don't know what happened to it, but I loved the avatars there and made several cute ones. One of my favorites was a bee themed avatar.

I think I visit every once in a blue moon, but its not as often as I should though.

Only asking, but does anyone know if any of the site moderators are active? I know Voz hasn't been active since 1 year ago, which is pretty concerning to me. I did look over what was said in his last post and he said he'd keep the site up.

@DragonicKittens: Yeah, I've seen those too. Idk I feel like if any of these sites will have any type of resurgence it'll probably be GaiaOnline since it's the most well-known and active. But they really would have to put it resource and time to update it's archaic infrastructure to grab any long-term users. I've been part developing these types of niche sites, as a pixel artist, that I'm not surprise you found it through FB haha! For some reason FB was just a ideal platform to update people about these sites during it's prime.

As for the staff, sadly I wasn't active enough here to get to know them so I have no clue with the state of things here.

You aren't wrong on that, I've seen several people talk about the site on tiktok all the time. Some are asking, "Do you remember this site?" to "OMG! They have an avatar maker in it! You can use it to make OCs!" (Throw back to my old days, haha.) But I do agree that they need to update the site, but from what I saw in a past ask the staff or staff post (I don't remember which unfortunately), I know they said they weren't going to update certain things. The main thing that urks me is that they took away my pretty animated items and brought out a new kind. XD But if I were to beg them to do anything, it would be to update the games. They suggested people to download water fox to play any of the flash games, but I tried that once and it refused to work. :/

Yeah, facebook was the main hay day for any avatar sites. I know I found Pantheon Online there as well as Sapherna, both sites seem to have shut down though, from what it looks like. I know for the first one mentioned, the avatar system was rather unique since you could dye items, including any monthly collectables. Their avatars were semi realistic. Sapherna had a lot of cute items, most of which I grinded out getting from one of their games for materials, similar to what Gaia had for their towns with catching bugs.

I'd say I was active, but I wouldn't say I was active enough to really know them. I mostly just stuck to the same few form posts. I think only one person I knew became a staff member, but they were also staff member of Sapherna.

I know if they didn't delete their discord server, I would have poked them there to see what was going on. But then again, I'm not sure if I left that or if they actually deleted it. @DragonicKittens: Yeah I briefly worked as a pixel artist in Sapherna; they were pretty chill and I am kinda sad they aren't online anymore :/ and huh, that's interesting with Pantheon Online - never heard of them but they kinda sound like they have a similar system to Recolor.me (still around) where you can recolour literally any items via sliders and you can even adjust it's opacity and do multiple items layer so you can create endless different combos for avatars. They used to have subscription membership instead of donations but the owner removed that and now idk, as far as I know he is only one funding and running the whole site? with a few artists and the community is very small but active.

And Gaia Online well..... sadly the days of flash games is long dead. Sad really.

It sucks that Sapherna shut down though, I really loved the avatars and items. I remembered really grinding for the bee themed avatar items. I remember going back to check something on there and it showed a new thing about rebranding and that they'd come back, but they never did. (From what I'm aware of.) I just wish I knew why they shut down, didn't see anything on their socials about it online, but it looks like those were long dead before they shut down. Pretty curious on what you did on the site. :) I'd love to see it some time.

Yeah, they sorta did, but it was pretty interesting to say the least. I looked at Pantheon's facebook page and the last update they did was back in 2022.

Ok, so I did just try a few of their games, looks like they managed to find a work around flash. But I still miss my animated items on the site. xD I know they have a new version of the animated stuff, but they are hella pricey.

@DragonicKittens: I did some here and there but I was also artist for other sites at the time so I was being in multiple directions? I couldn't find much for Sapherna that I did except for this one? But yeaah it was one of my really old pixels, looking back at it it looks hella flat and could have done better haha all I could find are pixels I've done for Caedon; everything else is no longer in my hard drive.

And huh... sad cause the Patheon pixels looked cute aw... I'm really sad loads of avatar sites are now gone siigh. I remember Lunae Saga implemented an RPG-type of game where you can PvP other users etc. and to replenish your health & mana is to post? It was amaziiing but that site went offline one day and ever came back.

Yeah, Gaia economy pretty much thrives on "Angel Donors" now so people just pay for sub or buy g-cash to stay afloat and I honestly do not blame them. They gotta fund it somehow. I know some marketplace sellers can be nice selling those exclusive items but they are few and far between. Idk about gold inflation mainly cause I have switched to Plats and never looked back.

@devil: They look nice to me! But then again, I can't really say too much when it comes to pixels. (The one in my sig is hella old xD) But I tend to stick with 1 highlight, the base color, 2 colors for shade, and 2 colors for the outline. I know its pretty limiting, but its what works for me, especially on a small scale. But I also have a love/hate relationship with my pixel art, so that doesn't really help much. I completely forgot about Caedon. XD I haven't been on there in a long time, but I also remember just stop going on due to it being sorta dead? But I know it did have an active community, just not active how I was used to Gaia.

That honestly sounds like fun! Though I'm more of a PvE kinda gal. But yeah, I think the only other site I sorta got into and fell off was Furvilla, it was kinda the same, but I couldn't figure out how to equip a weapon to fight in its game. (Looks like its still up too.) Its kinda the same with the forms, but from what I understand, if they still do it, they let people edit their bases and also submit them as a recolor, but no idea if they actually got approved or not though.

Which makes a lot of sense, but I'm sure most of the angel subs are people in our age range, if not older. I don't think I've seen anyone younger on there since I was a kid though. Oh and same on gold, I switched to plat as well. I know if you make a new account, its automatically set to plat. I'm afraid to get off of plat and see the difference. I'd probably faint just by looking at my wishlist. XD I know if I were to go back there, I'd have to do art again just to get anything I wanted. But I really don't wanna do that. X_X Gaia was the reason why I started to do pixel art, but Gaia is the reason for the love/hate relationship.
