I wondered if they did lion and unicorn as interesting alternatives to bishop? Because a bishop is a religious figure I wondered if they didn’t want to do an item for it in case it offended someone.. /shrug
Or some of the pieces have different names in other countries, so it’s possible some of them are nods to other versions of chess pieces.
The tweedles are from Alice in Wonderland, and the sequel is Through the Looking Glass and I know some of the story takes place on a chess board with talking pieces. I don’t remember the story well enough to say if lions and unicorns are in it though. But maybe they’re all Wonderland characters. Heck, there may have been a train conductor for all I know. XD

@Lina: quite possibly. i wonder if they were supposed to be rooks though since they were fighting all the time? idk lol i'm just trying really hard with this chess piece theme. i keep forgetting bishops are a religious thing. chess club only taught me that "the bishop is the one with a cut in the head" lol

like the bandana items - someone posted abt it in the thread and w/in a month they had been made into commons :3 so i think it helps to be vocal abt stuff you'd wanna see! i'm guessing as staff too, it helps to not have to come up w ideas from scratch all the time
