@Wildfire: yes it's a great way to gain experience. I am not too bothered about my work getting published, I am probably the only writer ever to think that lol. I would just feel awkward about someone paying to read something I wrote, since I believe art should be free, not behind a pay wall etc.

@sunny: I agree with you as long as the artist themselves is receiving compensation for their time, skills, experience, etc for their work (i.e. pay the artist but don't charge admission for a gallery or museum or access to a web site)

@Wildfire: yep that's pretty much what I meant xD which is why I might go down the self publishing route, because you get to choose how much your book is available for etc.

Yes, I like the self-publishing route - it provides a lot of options for people who might not otherwise be able to get their ideas out there. It can be frustrating as an avid reader, however, if people just "shove" stuff out without going through a real editing process

@wildfire: ooh what kind of painting do you do ? what's your painting of :3

i used to do oil painting, i think some of the principles carry over w/ digital
but it's such a different mindset for me, like "fine art" painting vs. character / concept art , i've been having trouble translating from fine art (like still lifes, portraits, landscapes) to character art since the process feels v different
drawing and painting from reference feel v easy for me but doing from imagination i really struggle with :0
i think i need to accept that they are ultimately different approaches and they can inform one another but i have to stop trying to consolidate them completely maybe ? idk lol

Yeah I agree. People should still take it seriously, even if it is "just" self-publishing.

@xvz: Yep - there's definitely carry-over from one to the other, but it's also a completely different beast - much like what you're trying to explain (I think).

@sunny: exactly - and they should do more than just get their two best friends to read and do basic editing! (I've seen more than enough books like this - can you tell? It really breaks the continuity of the storyline and the enjoyment from reading it)
