I do miss lurking on forums, I was much more of a lurker back in the golden days of forums. I wound up posting a bit more just in time to see the complete demise of my main forum and the slow decline of the others. I feel like lurking on forums has a similar vibe as people-watching, but that isn't even common anymore because there's always something on your phone you could be entertaining yourself with instead. It's a weird thing to say, but I think I miss the boredom that used to be possible before I had a boredom vanishing device on me at all times lmao.

I've heard of people using Discord to rp, but I've always used it as a slightly more organized form of texting with my irl friends. Where do people find their roleplay groups originally anymore? Discord seems like such a closed system, unlike the forums of yesteryear where it was a bit like throwing a line into the ocean when posting for a rp partner.

The avatar forums were also just a grand opportunity for casual roleplay, with people acting as their avatar in the realm that different threads created. I suppose that could be duplicated on Discord too, though.

Oh interesting, I feel like the site-wide drama is pretty common in smaller communities like forums. I had no idea it had been shut down for a while, I must not have been here for that part of the history.

The community of forums is so hard to find anywhere else. Social media sites just don't have the same feel, and art was always such a big element of forums that doesn't seem to be as pertinent in any other setting. In the same vein as art, I will say I miss the element of roleplay that seemed to come specifically with avatar forums, it was a fun quirk of the experience.

Honestly, I only pop in every once in a while because it has become even more of a ghost town than it was when I first got here, and its a bit tricky to hold a conversation over the course of several months (which seems to be the visitation rate of anybody else).

I'm curious that you say this place has returned, was it more barren previously?

I think its tricky to maintain an active forum site like this anymore because its not something you can pop into whenever you have a free moment like bigger social media sites. I don't know about anyone else but I tend to only check my forums when I'm sat working at the computer for a while, and even then its hard to compete with the little people in my phone lol. I wish forums would pick up again, but alas, I doubt they'll see another real day in the sunshine.

I tried joining this site because my old forum stomping grounds went the way of myspace, but it was so quiet here even then that I couldn't find any footing here. I still check back in to see if it ever picks up, but I somehow manage to never be online at the same time as anyone else (or even within the same week lmao).
Ooh! A fun new outfit is always nice!

In the back of a meandering labyrinth of a library sits a cozy nook that smells of coffee and freshly baked pastries. The windows are bright and the chairs are soft, be careful not to spill on the books.

Welcome, welcome! A long time ago, in a website far far away, I used to spend my days in a cafe-themed hangout thread with a chaotic amount of roleplaying and a vague sense of cohesive conversation. Those days are gone, but I thought I would try to carve out a corner to recreate the camaraderie and escapism that flourished on forums of yore. Pull up a seat, grab a beverage, and lets hang out. Let me know if you've read any good books lately, or if you've taught yourself something new just for the joy of it.

@Voz: I've been into polar opposite genres lately, either fantasy/sci-fi or nonfiction. I recently read A City on Mars by Kelly and Zach Weinersmith and its a little bit of both worlds falling into pop-science.

Hi everyone!

I joined a few years back and managed to stop lurking after only a few weeks, but I've recently decided to immerse myself exclusively in websites that remind me of the whimsy of the earlier internet (which, for me, is avatar websites) so here I am once more! I cannot promise I will not revert to my old ways of lurking around, but seeing as it is quite quiet here I'll do my best to pitch in and make it a bit more lively.

I'm always reading something new if you're looking for book recommendations, and someday I will begin my quest to play a laundry list of old video games that I managed to get my hands on, but that may have to wait for life to slow down a bit again!

I did the 100 baby challenge last year and haven’t been able to open the game since, although normally the building aspect is my favorite. Anymore I seem to get bored once I actually get the characters all made and the house all built, but I’m holding out for the random urge to play for days straight again.

@GoblinsAndTea: I love the art style of that game, I love games with more of an Earthbound or Undertale style. One of my favorite games as a kid (and probably now, if I could find the time to replay it) was Contact for the DS. It fell under the same feel that the rest of these rpgs have, but I really enjoyed the plot. I might have to check out Omori, it looks like something I could spend quite a lot of time getting into!

@Anarchist Beauty: I’m so glad I’m not the only one who can’t do Minecraft, it’s not so bad if I’m playing it for a minute but if I have to watch my partner play it with their little sibling I get dizzy. There’s a fine line somewhere between the pixilated style of older games (I can play Super Mario just fine) and the high definition games where it’s dizzy-city for me.

Honestly once my classes are over I might have to use this thread as a to-do list, sometimes I think the less recognized games are more rewarding than the overhyped ones.

I love Animal Crossing and Breath of the Wild as much as anybody, but I honestly enjoyed Skyward Sword as much for different reasons (and sometimes wish New Horizons was more like New Leaf). Does anybody else have favorites that don't cause as much of a stir as some of the other games in their series? Or stand-alone games that didn't get enough recognition?
