@Xanthan: That would have been really cool! I'm really sorry to hear your ex couldn't be supportive about the project. It's really a lot of work to put together a comic, so maybe we can talk about your plansand making comics in the new forum too?

@0v7: I don't know! Maybe I should ask about it in the newbie help forum haha x'D

I love this so much! Also loving your new look!

I guess to answer your question the most recent thing is something that I didn't consider much of a risk at the time? My best friend irl and I are building a tabletop system, partly because we needed it to run tabletop stories we couldn't find a good system for, but also because the act of making it is keeping us sane during quarantine. But we're getting to the point where we need outside opinions to make sure everything works, since we're pretty like minded.

We put together a little document of the pieces we needed opinions on and we posted it. We hadn't really told anyone that we were working on it, or that we'd be asking for help if people were interested, and tbh we'd been riding the high of being excited and proud of our work. But when it came to posting it, it was really like,, anxiety causing. We put it in a discord where most of our tabletop friends gather, and that community is like 98% people I trust to be at least friendly. The first comment was from that 2%, though, and that super bugged me. I called that person out, but I wasn't doing it for my own benefit, it was more to make sure my best friend wasn't discouraged. Of course either that or the late hour killed the channel, but it picked up again the next morning and I was relieved. I was afraid by actually asserting myself I'd turn everyone off of actually looking at the thing we made. Later in that thread, when that 2% kept being rude, my best friend also put his foot down, and honestly I'm glad. He has a really high tolerance for mistreatment (and I have developed a very low one), but I was more relieved that he also felt empowered to stand up for himself.

The funny part was that I didn't really realize the "risk" until my dad - also mad at 2% for being a butt - brought it up that we'd shared a little secret part of ourselves to the greater group. And, barring that one guy, all of our friends were really supportive. They even took the time to give us some really depthful feedback that's seriously helped us out. It's been really nice to find out who we can rely on, ya know? Because like also a couple other people helped kinda redirect that rude guy, and it was nice to not have to hold the fort alone.

Anyway, I'm not super sure if that's the kind of thing you were looking for Xanthan, but i found the exchange interesting and reassuring.

@0v7: I love those so much!! Honestly I might try that method. I've tried the letter mapping (ie you write out the alphabet and connect the letters) but it never quite feels right.

@LilMissKushy: @Kozi: Thank you both!! I already love it here! Hope to see yall around!

  • (Made an attempt at forum design, lets hope this turns out well haha)

@xvz: I appreciate the head's up haha! And yes, that's kind'a my hope! Right now we are in this weird place with human-machine interfaces (like Aelxa) where we have to couch our words to the commands that machines can interpret, and this strangeness is kind of reinforced by the fact that we are talking to a black cylinder, or an amorphus grey disk, or even our televisions! I want to use animatronics to make the machine recognizable as "something sentient" the same way we can accept like animal characters in a children's cartoon as "people"! And same, I grew up watching the Muppets Show and Sesame Street, and I love the puppets and how they "come to life". Jim Henson pioneered a lot of how puppets and later animatronics are used in cinema and television, as well as how to design characters to seem intelligent instead of just a pile of felt! Also I agree! I've never been part of an "avatar site" before, but I have to admit that the shopping aspect is pretty addicting <3

@LupaPrinceRomulus: There are actually 3ft owls! I can't remember what they are called, but they look like a costume xD Mine ended up tall because that's what it took to have a proportionally large enough head to make the articulations I needed! I still have it, but apparently no pictures of when it was in one piece ^^; I took it apart to change its design, but haven't finished that process yet, so it's a bit horrific to look at! (Also to your first post: yes, I've had such a nice reception! I wanted to make an introduction and see if I could make some more friends here ^^)

@Xanthan: Thank you so much!! It sounds like your working towards some really important stuff! It really is important to put out as many good vibes as possible, even if its just little things or just to a few people. It sounds like you're really going for what you believe in, and I have mad respect for that. Also I'm so glad you enjoyed my art! I'm really grateful for the kind compliments! I want to publish my own comics, so I've been working hard on trying to get better!

@Totalanimefan: @LilMissKushy: @pachi: @Alexis: Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I'm really glad I joined, honestly. I've spent a lot of time in, shall we say, "unhealthy" communities on the internet, so I'm excited to find a place that is kind and gentle.

@0v7: That's really incredible!! I've made one or two, but I haven't settled on a method yet ^^; How do you make yours, if you don't mind me asking? I like how portable and versatile sigils are, so i definitely want to get better at making them! Also, yessssssss!!! Q.Q <3 I want to just look inside them for an hour to figure out how they work!! There are some good television specials I've seen over the years about the older ones like on the Carousel of Progress and Hall of Presidents, but I also wanna learn more about the newer ones. They have one that is DEFINITELY going to be Spiderman, which is being produced by Disney Research LA. These are the guys I wanna work with!

@xvz: ooof didn't realize, figured since i was my thread it wouldn't matter if i spammed and i wanted to pay everyone the respect of replying individually x'(

But yeah, ill try and post a picture of it tomorrow if i can find one! It was about 3ft tall, but that was mostly a sculpture out of craft foam. I focused more on the ability to make expressions, so it's head could rotate and it could "talk" and blink its eyes! I took a lot of inspiration from Jim Henson's design and puppeteering styles.

And thank you for the head's up! I kind'a love the avatar shop already haha <3

@0v7: Thank you! I'm very very new to magic, so I haven't chosen a "field" yet, but I'm vary interested in sigil craft and garden magic! I've loved animatronics for as long as I can remember, its a goal of mine to work with Disney Imagineering to build animatronics for the theme parks!

@xvz: My first animatronic character is an Owl named Sidra! But currently i work with a little Lego fella named Legsby and he "helps me" with my research. My PhD is focusing on creating a more natural human-machine interface through animatronic characters.

Call me Bridgette, I'm 25, she/they, and I'm a PhD student starting in the Fall. I'm a Pisces and INTJ, and I'm somewhere under the nonbinary and gender fluid flags. I'm asexual, so don't ask. But I'm single, romance-positive, and always very tired.

I've never been on a website like this, but a friend convinced me to join and I'm liking it so far. I guess eventually I'll get better at formatting posts, I've seen some really pretty formats.

I like minecraft (bedrock/switch) and art. I'm a writer, aspiring Mangaka, and an budding animatronicist. (Means I build little character robots in my bedroom lol). I'm also training to be a witch, and beginning my journay as a Mandalorian. I also do tabletop rpg, and am building a system with my best friend. I'm a self-proclaimed punk, storyteller, and vampire - I don't claim to be a "goth" because the subculture and the aesthetic are different things and one of them doesn't like the other. I'm alien to forum rp, and haven't done chat room rp for almost a decade, but I'm not opposed to trying something new. I just care about the story.

Favorite books are Ender's Game and Interview with the Vampire, followed by the Percy Jackson and Artemis Fowl series.

Tell me if there's anything else you wanna know, and feel free to talk to me about whatever.
@LupaPrinceRomulus: tbh i haven't even finished Heroes of Olympus so I avoid his twitter a lot to keep myself from getting spoiled. I don't now what's happening in Trials of Apollo other than Apollo is a ditz (which is historically accurate). I'm not sure what you mean by a War series, but it would be interesting to see Celtic myths in the Riordanverse, since that's part of my heritage.

I'd very much like to see some native american mythos and some Scottish mythos since those are in my bloodline and I am very proud of them, even though I am very removed from them. (None of my direct family knows much about it, and the member of my family who was full Cherokee passed and left little record, so we just don't have much to go on or any connections to pursue.)
