Forums Entertainment Oldest Movie You've Ever Seen

Donator — 0% Edible Posted 4 years ago ( 2020/02/19 17:04:29 )

Mostly I'm just curious, because I've been on an old movie kick lately. Few nights ago I watched Ziegfeld Girl which was released in 1941, but that is definitely not the oldest film I've ever watched.

Mary Pickford's Cinderella which was released in 1914, might be the oldest movie for me.

The oldest one I can think of at the moment is Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which premiered in 1937. I feel like I've definitely seen parts of other movies that might be older, but I can't think of any that I've watched all the way through.

Roundhay Garden Scene, more of a short than a full length picture of course but it is the oldest surviving film we have (1888) and I have watched it.

I've watched many many many many silent films tho, love the genre.

@ghost: I too enjoy silent films. It's a shame though that a lot of the ladies films hasn't survive of the decades. Would like more of Theda Bara's work.

@Starlight: I think a lot of people's oldest is going to be one of Disney's earlier works.

@Bioshock: I still need to watch that actually. It's a stunning use of early special effects.

Nosferatu: Symphony of Horror. It's a German silent film from 1922. I might have watched older films but this is the only one I can remember right now. By today's stardards it's slow.

That charlie chaplin one where he adopts an actress's illegitimate baby off the street. 1925 iirc.

Truly a tragicomedy masterpiece.

@Eruca: The Kid?

The child from that film went on to be Uncle Fester in the Addams Family tv series.

@Another Movie Addict: Then that one. I've seen clips of old black and white movies, and even real life clips of what cities looked like in the early 1900's, like before WWI

@Colan: Fair enough, unless I find it first. Then it'll get watched when found. Finding older movies can be a big ass pain though. Most places are super ageist. Netflix, Hulu, Xfinity, the less legal means. They all hate the oldies.

@another movie addict: Ye, which sucks cuz quite a few of the oldies had great storytelling.
