Forums Serious Talk Is This Normal?

Donator — She, her Posted 5 years ago ( 2019/01/7 17:29:34 )
You can die anytime...

Well... My birthday is in a week... I turn 30 years old x.x And I have nothing to show for it... No job (rotten luck finding one), no house of my own (I live with my parents), no car (driving kinda scares me a little bit) so I'm thinking I might be a little depressed. It also doesn't help that my birthday lands not long after Christmas. I want to be excited about it, just because it was something I was happy about as a kid, but I'm just not able to. I just wonder if this is normal for those that have felt like this before?

I'd say this is pretty normal as you get older. We get bogged down with expectations and responsibilities that make it harder to appreciate the good things we do have. I wouldn't worry about your age so much though if that's what's bugging you. It's never too late to do something.

I would recommend becoming more familiar with driving simply to give you that independence though. Might help you get a job too, who knows.

@Priestess of Pie: It probably would. I just get really bad anxiety when I think about it DX I need to see someone about getting medically diagnosed with it since I am just thinking I have it. I'm hoping to be over this feeling soon. And cute avatar by the way ^-^

@KimmiChan1989: If you feel like you need help then you do. Don't be afraid to reach out to a specialist to get the help you need. Even "healthy" people could really benefit from seeing a therapist once in a while honestly.

@KimmiChan1989: There may be low income programs in your area that can give discounted or even free care. It's definitely worth looking into until you get some insurance.

@KimmiChan1989: It's worth looking into. Also I don't know if you're religious or not (not that it necessarily matters) but often churches will offer free or discounted counseling. I remember going to one when I was in my early 20's even though I didn't go to the church there. It was very helpful for me at the time though just to have someone to talk to about things.

@KimmiChan1989: Its normal  Birthdays stop becoming a big deal as you get older. Its really sad but I don't know how to prevent it.

As for not having a job by 30 I don't think you should worry too much. You can't make life follow your plans. Life is chaos and it will do its own thing, you gotta go with the flow. Sometimes no matter how hard you try you won't have a job by 30 and that's okay. Its just an arbitrary date, don't let it get you down. I know our parents' generation had their shit together by that age but it was alot easier for them back then. We live in a time where everything is changing so fast, old jobs are turning obsolete and new jobs are being created. Even the education system isn't keeping up. Keep on keeping on and you will get there eventually Your path is your own and its unique, don't judge yourself based on other people.

@KimmiChan1989: Yeah there isn't really a 100% sure path that you can take to land a good job nowadays. All we can do is keep on following leads and trying things out. I wish you the best of luck. Don't lose hope. We are all in pretty much the same boat. I just turned 28 too and still don't have a steady job. My hubby is 31 and he doesn't have one either.

The way I look at it is that tons of idiotic people from highschool are able to drive perfectly fine, I should be able to aswell. I used to be really bad abt not wanting to but it reaaaaaally gives you so much. You can go wherever. You dont have to worry about a job being super close or depending on someone to take you. And when you do have a job you have money to go do stuff or just to treat yaself with a tattoo haha.
Stable jobs are hard. College is hard and expensive. Economy is just awful rn, so dont worry too much because we all feel you on that

I've found that as I get older... events make me sad.
Birthday? But what have I accomplished in my life.
New year? But what have I accomplished in the year.

So I would say that that's pretty normal. I try my best to spend them with people instead of just me alone cause I know I'll end up sitting down and being sob about it. Then hopefully you'll look back and think of your birthday as a fun day that you spent with important people.

Of course it's normal to feel that way. I'm sure you had things you wanted or expected to achieve by this point; I know that feeling all too well. It's depressing. But the only thing to do is not let go of your goals, and keep working toward them. Better late than never. In the meantime, focus on the things you have achieved, the things you've been through, and the work you've put in. If you have supportive friends and/or family, that's even better: talk to them about where you are in life and where you'd like to be, and what they can do to help you get there, even if it's just offering their encouragement. This is something I think most people go through in one way or another, unless they've had everything handed to them--and not having those things handed to you, hard as it may be, is an advantage in itself.

Hey, don't let turning 30 get you down. I just turned 30 and only shortly after did I even start to feel like I have a grip on things. STARTING. Times are very different than they were when our parents were our age and homeownership is something so far beyond comprehension for me I don't let it get me down. Driving isn't always necessary but if it does bother you, practice will make it more comfortable to you and etc.

We all work at different paces and the world is.. so different. It's tough trying to make sense of it but you'll get there.
