"Something tells me you know more than you're letting on." Rene replied.

"And the areas where Evan is feeling pain are suspicious." he commented further.

"You say his mana is coming in, and I can believe that." he went on. "Odds are it's what's causing the fever, to be honest." he admitted.

"However, I think Evan may be taking after you." he then said.

"Quite literally, if my suspicions are correct." he commented further.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" he asked her.

"If that IS the case, then there's nothing I can do for him." Rene said.

"Just keep his fever down." he said further.

"This has to happen, and it can't be tampered with or hindered." he sighed.

"And we have no idea how long this will-" he said further, before they heard Evan yelp. It was short, but it was loud.

"....might be happening now, actually..." Rene mumbled.

"Back to work, then." he said, before heading back to the couch Evan was laying on.

Again, Rene sighed as he heard what she said.

"Yep." he called back to her.

-Several hours later-

Evan had been yelping a few times, groaning, moaning, and there had been silence. But Rene had stayed by his side, and refused to get up.

However, as Kitt and Casey sat outside to try and remain calm and get some fresh air, Kitt suddenly perked up and saw Rene standing at the door to the backyard.

"Yo!" he called out to them, giving them a "c'mere" sign.

"Oh, it's happened." Rene responded.

"Was certainly dramatic, but it's happened." he told her.

"His fever's going down considerably, he shouldn't be in pain any longer..." he listed off. "...and that's about it. He's currently sleeping it off." he said further, before pausing.

"...you may want to be there when he wakes up, though." he then suggested.

"He might be a bit alarmed, and you'll have to teach him some things..." he added, trailing off at the end.

Rene just smiled at her.

"Hey, no worries." he replied.

"I'm a doctor, it's what I do." he said.

He then watched as Kitt started to sniff around, slowly walking past the two of them.

"Seems she wants to see Evan." he commented.

"And the two of you are free to do so." he told them.

"I put a blanket over him and put a pillow under his head." he then said. "It's up to you if you take him up to his room or not." he went on.

"But, what that all said and done, I shall take my leave." he told her.

"Call me if any other issues or concerns arise."

Casey then left the room, but Kitt stayed there, jumping up on the bed and laying down at Evan's feet.

Time had passed, and she heard Sammy returning home... which was when she also heard Evan's door being opened, and Kitt's footsteps on the floor.

She also heard another set of footsteps... lighter, softer, more steady. Probably Evan's.

The footsteps made their way downstairs, and she heard Evan's voice call out softly.

"Mommy...?"

A few seconds later, Kitt and Evan appeared, the former helping the latter stand.

And, sure enough, he was sporting a pair of feline ears on his head, and a tail extending from where he tailbone was.

"....Mom?" he asked when he saw her.

"Something happened." he said.

"I feel weird... and I look... well... like you." he commented further.

"Is this normal?" he asked.

"Oh... I see." Evan replied.

"But the pain will stop now, right?" he asked.

Casey nodded in response.

"...I have another question." Evan then said further.

"Will my tail ever stop acting like it has a mind of its own?" he asked, his new tail swishing wildly back and forth.

"Oh... all right." Evan replied.

"...can we have fish for dinner?" he then asked.

"I really want fish." he told her.

"I feel like I could eat a LOT of fish right now." he said further.

Kitt then started to nuzzle against Evan, which caused him to smile, and his ears to twitch.

"Salmon." Evan replied.

"Salmon, please." he said.

"That sounds really good." he told her.

He then sat down, as did Kitt, the two of them snuggling together.

"I feel closer to Kitt, now." he commented.
