The sky was a gorgeous golden hue with sporadic streaks of reds and pinks. The light from it shone across the ground quite well, showed the life of the area. It wasn't something that was too unknown though, for where he found himself, it was something that was quite nice. This was a big city for the era, but it was still comfortable, still had that community. He couldn't tell right off the hop that it did, but it wasn't impossible to pick up on that in the air, in the interactions he witnessed.

"All right... his home should be .." He started before he saw the home in question. It wasn't ritzy, exactly, but it definitely stood above the rest in the area in terms of appearance. There was also a crack of thunder and a bolt of lightning that hit a metal pole attached to the home that he was looking at.

Yep, that was definitely the home. There was no doubt about it.

---

She was walking through the house, books in her hands, and on her way to where she knew she could find her father. She had promised to return the books that day, and she had every intention of holding true to that. There was no reason not to, of course.

As she reached the door of the room in question, she noticed that it was open, some light spilling out. She stepped into the room and paused, having not heard the conversation between the two men that were there.

"Oh! Pardon me, father. I had never meant to intrude!" She exclaimed quietly, her voice quite sweet, as she set the books down. It wasn't hard for the visitor to realise that she hadn't grown up speaking the language that she'd spoken in, she was learning.

Of course, she did sound quite good regardless, though.

"It's all right, Reveka." Her father said with a smile before beckoning her over. She brought her small form over to him and stood by him, as she was beckoned to.

"I would like to introduce you to a fellow scholar." He stated.

"Vincent, this is my daughter, Reveka." He said. The petite blodne then bowed cordially. Seemed she was raised to be polite, if nothing else.

"Hello" She said kindly.

The other male, Vincent, smiled at the girl.

"Well, hello to you as well." he replied with a small bow from where he was sitting.

"You've certainly done well in teaching her manners, Garridan" he then said to her father.

"She's a bright young girl." Garridan responded.

"Oh, I know." Vincent said, before looking at Reveka.

"Your father has nothing but praise for you." he told her. "You are his pride and joy." he told her further, before Garridan just cleared his throat a little.

"At any rate, did you finish the books, Reveka?" the girl's father asked her.

Reveka nodded.

"Of course. I have also compiled that list you request as well." She said, slipping up with her grammar. Then again, she looked to be lucky to be thirteen, so it made sense she didn't know the language too well.

"It is marking the same page you had marked in the top book." She then added.

"RequestED, dear." her father gently corrected her.

"Remember the proper conjugation." he said.

"That's still very impressive." Vincent complimented.

"Also, a list?" he then asked.

"What sort of list?" he asked further, attempting to make polite conversation, but also a little on the curious side.

"My apologies. I will try and remember that..." Reveka commented with a light sigh.

"And the list?" She asked, turning her attention to Vincent.

"It was merely a list of important ..... uhh... things to denote that I read them." She answered. "And that may help with his studies."

"Oh?" Vincent asked Garridan.

"Indeed." her father responded.

"She shows interest and aptitude in her studies, as well as my own." he chuckled.

"I see, I see." Vincent said, before looking at Reveka.

"So you aim to be an alchemist as well?" he asked her.

Reveka nodded.

"Of course." She stated before pausing.

"However, there are things I do not believe are possible. For example, lead into gold." She commented.

"It would be fantastic if it was possible, but I fear it is not. Father, of course, disagrees."

"We are SO close." Garridan said.

"I feel that we are only missing the ONE key element." he told Vincent.

"Mmmm, I see." Vincent replied.

"Reveka, you'll see." Garridan then said to his daughter. "We'll make it. And we'll show the world what we're capable of!" he declared.

Vincent just smirked a little, and chuckled lightly.

"Do YOU have any goals for your alchemy?" he asked the girl.

"To create insides that are useable, for people who need them." Reveka stated as an answer before pausing.

"Uhh... " She thought about it for a moment before sighing and just poking herself in the torso.

"Insides." She stated, as if to say that what she meant, was the organs and such within a human.

Vincent chuckled once more.

"Children are so adorable at her age." he said to Garridan.

"But you wish to create organs to help people?" he asked her.

"A very noble goal." he said.

"A goal that will certainly help many people, should you succeed." he then added.

"I do hope she can do it." Garridan chimed in.

"To succeed in such an endeavour would be certainly wonderful."

Reveka just smiled.

"I will, with time." She stated.

"I just need to read more, first." She added, trying to say she needed to study the subject more, but not knowing the word.

Again, Vincent smiled.

"Of course." he said.

"One must never neglect their studies." her father then commented.

"You got through those books fairly quickly, as well." he then said to her.

"I suppose it's time for you to move onwards and upwards." he reasoned.

"See if you can't comprehend a level higher in reading."

Reveka nodded.

"Only if you feel me worthy of progressing farther." She said with a soft smile.

"Oh! For now, I must go help mother with dinner." She added after a moment.

"A pleasure, Sir." She said, addressing Vincent as she curtsied before heading off.

"Goodbye, dear." Vincent replied as she left.

"...she's a darling child." he then said.

"She's been such a blessing to her mother and I." Garridan agreed.

"...." Vincent was then silent, seeming to have a wave of guilt wash over him.

"It's not your fault." Garridan said, seeming to know what was going through his friend's mind.

"It still feels like it is." Vincent replied.

"I sometimes wonder if those forbidden studies may actually be worth it..." he went on, which caused Garridan to raise an eyebrow curiously.

Vincent had been there visiting, helping Garridan, for a few days before he encountered Reveka in the library again. She was pouring over texts, jotting down nots - that he noticed weren't in English - as she went.

She didn't seem to notice he was there, but he did notice a book that was by her, it was one that he and her father had been speaking about the night before.

Maybe she had some insight.

Vincent looked at the book, and raised an eyebrow.

'Hm...' he thought.

'Ethics in Alchemy: Borderline Formulae and Theories.' he read the title in his mind.

He looked at Reveka again, before piecing it together that she had to have gone through the text.

He sighed quietly, before clearing his throat a little.

"Reveka, might I speak with you, please?" he asked her.

"Of course." She said after a moment.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?" She asked, her voice as sweet as when he first met her.

Vincent felt his heart melt a little when he heard her voice again.

"Heh." he chuckled.

"Well, I noticed this book was in the stack of texts you've read." he told her, showing her the cover.

"There are some... very difficult things discussed in here." he went on, flipping through the pages again.

"Mostly, they seem to talk about how all the ideas in here should be avoided, even though, strictly speaking, they're not against any laws." he continued.

"Did they discuss anything you agreed with? Or disagreed with?" he asked her, wondering where her own personal moral compass was at this point in her life.

"I... agree with most of it." Reveka answered.

"Although... I neither agree or disagree with a few things." She then added before grabbing the book and flipping to the chapter on reanimation.

"For instance."

Vincent looked at the chapter she motioned to, and sighed.

"Indeed." he said.

"The business of reanimation and resurrection is... a very sticky wicket." he told her.

"Some say we should, some say we shouldn't, and both sides have very good reasons." he went on, shaking his head a little.

"I suppose it may lay on personal circumstances." he continued.

"But I wonder if perhaps we should let the dead rest..." he muttered, before pausing.

"Not to try and influence you, of course." he quickly told her.
