Forums Serious Talk Might become a blood donor

Donator — Demoness Posted 6 years ago ( 2018/02/6 21:15:21 )

Hey I might become a blood donor but a huge part of me is afraid,
No I am not afraid of needles, they just make me nervous. I am not afraid of blood, never have been.
But for some reason, the thought of losing a bunch of blood and the chance of getting dizzy triggers my anxiety a bit.
But I REALLY want to, at least once!
I want to remove that little fear tho, has anyone here donated blood before or wants to as well? Or just wants to share something that could help my anxiety a bit?

@Baphomet: I have always wanted to donate my blood too but my dad kept telling me no because I was pale and skinny. He said I looked like I needed it haha. Sorry I can't help you with your anxiety but hey you are not alone!

@Saeyra: Oh my! Yeah, I don't look too much in need of blood and I have healthy blood so I believe it would be fine, I just worry that I will fall and die for no reason, that is just the life on anxiety I guess!

@Baphomet: Do you think you could ask someone to be with you? That should clear up that worry

Generally even if you're feeling "tipsy" after donating..you'll be fine pretty fast after, it's the most harmless thing. Even if you're scared though, they tend to watch you for a while after you donate and see if there are any side effects, if nothing happens in 5 or so minutes in terms of feeling "tipsy" you'll be completely fine.

I'd love to give blood but I'm not sure if I meet the requirements anymore.
I wouldn't worry too much-- you should be fine :) If anything, bring a friend or family member along with you to help ease your nervousness.
Heck, maybe even donate together!

@Baphomet: I've thought about donating my blood before but I haven't yet,
and don't they give you a cookie or something after words so you don't get
the dizzies, or am I wrong and thinking of something else?

If you can’t say something nice, Don’t say anything at all!

@Baphomet: I gave blood before and, after you give blood, they make sure you aren't dizzy before you can even get off of the chair.
I was dizzy after, more because I don't like blood or needles, and the nurse kept pushing me back into the chair. She always wanted to know how I would get back home and made sure I had a ride.

I’m proud of you Baph. I could never do that. I’m deathly afraid of my own blood and needles. :/
