Forums Artist Galleries ❀ Traditional Projects - Dioramas!

Voltie — she/her Posted 8 months ago ( 2022/02/1 02:29:53 )

I am also repurposing this thread! Originally used to show off my china house diorama kit (which I finished, I'll add that here)
But I have a lot of things I'm working on! Other dioramas of course, but I also have been painting flower pots and I want to begin playign with clay soon as well.

So, this is a thread just for my traditional projects and to show the progress I've made~! (when I remember to take pictures of them)

Wow that's so cool! I remember growing up my mom made something like this (but from scratch and not as complicated) in her college classes. I wanted to play with it so much and I remember really liking it. My mom had to keep me away from it because it was for her final lol.
You have done a really good job so far!

@Totalanimefan:
Ohhh I wonder if it was one of those doll house things? Like they aren't actually for dolls since they're smaller, but you can find parts or kits for them in the same section as these kits usually. Some people get the kit where they build it off instructions, and some will straight up just... build an entire thing themselves by doing their own measuring and wood cutting XD
They're a bit bigger than this but also very cool, my grandma made one and would let me play with it when I was little. I would just end up staring at the miniature pieces, like mini cookie sheet with ginger bread cookies on it, and other tiny things they were stupidly cute!

@Jolly: She just straight up made one (but it was much simpler) for her final. There wasn't like all the pieces and she just followed instructions.
That's very cool. How long does it take the average person to finish? This is a good pandemic activity lol

@Totalanimefan:
Thats awesome! I'm sure they're not easy to make by scratch like that!

I'm not sure, I didn't watch her make it. Just saw the result.
The ones I make take me forever but thats because I take breaks for a while to do other things

@Jolly: I think breaks are needed when doing things like this. You have to make sure your hands are rested so you might make a mistake.

I now peer at a new project

Coffee shop!
Its very cute, but after the hassle that the last diorama was, I have to glare real close at the details to mentally prepare myself...

This is a cute ass piano, but in how many pieces will I have to glue together to achieve this
my perfectionistic attitude, this may take a while to complete while lining the pieces up just right

Aha, I spy some wire
I may need to obtain more super glue, as the type that I use for all other materials is real tricky to use on wire.
Works, but hard to achieve >>
I assume I will be responsible for twirling the wire to make that door handle too
hm
hm hm

Lights
wiring
my worst enemy

I'll be honest I haven't worked on this in a while only because of how much this stool made me rage

It was
so impossibly stupid
to balance every par of it to glue it together.
tiny wires
tiny beads
nothing but my own damn fingers to hold it together

and I have a second one to make but I dont wanna

Work in progress - First ever wreath! :D
I halted when it came to the last step cause I realize I dont know how to make nice bows. So once I master that, I'll be able to slap this onto my door!
I'll take a better photo at that point too without my legs involved XD
I literally just got home from work, plopped down and started at it on the floor

*edit update
Decided I'm too impatient to make nice bows, so calling this wreath done!

First [successful] cricut!!
The actual first ended up testing my patience and got messed up XD
So then I wanted to test out this shiny vinyl and cutting finer lines, so I used my usual watermark logo thing

It came out cute! It took way too long though. I took heed of some youtube videos talking about things being too sticky for materials. So for the sticky mat I patted it with my hands but was a bit worried I might pat it too much (but I think I didnt pat it enough). This didn't wanna get off the mat, so I had to really fish it off with my nails and a hook/needle tool.
Got it on the transfer paper, but then THAT WAS TOO STICKY and it didn't wanna come off :'''')

My ipad case doesnt really have a smooth surface so thats probably why.

But yeah, took all my patience. A lot of time. But it turned out!
