@Wildfire: that makes sense! That's a good reason to want to pick up a language. I did French at school too, and I've forgotten most of it lol!

@vengeance: hey, I wasn't really online, so I missed you!

@sunny: It's easy to forget a language if you don't have opportunity to speak it regularly.

@Wildfire: yeah that's true. Do you get much opportunity to use your Italian?

@sunny: No, nor did I get a chance to use the French when I was semi-fluent with that. It's unfortunate, really, but it's one of the realities of being in the US - there are small pockets of other languages being spoken here and there, but even if you find one, the language spoken in those pockets tends to be very much its own dialect, and fairly broken. It's like learning the language all over again. You? Are you able to keep up with any other language?

@Eruca: Well hello there! How are you?

There's something foul about the air here...

I'm working on swedish right now, it's an interesting language. There's this youtube channel called "Say It In Swedish" that has a discord where you can practice your swedish with other people. Actualyl speaking the language with other people is an important part of learning languages.
I don't like the way learning languages is structured most of the time as well which might contribute to not finding use for it. Random vocabulary and grammar basics aren't exactly the most useful when you're in the middle of a conversation lol,
I mean when you were first learning your first language when you were growing up, were you picking up all the little bits of grammar and random vocabulary? Of course not! You pick up normal conversation pieces

It's a fun language, 8/10 recommend. AAlso a lot of bands I listen to/a streamer I watch are swedish so it's just a useful bonus

A yeh. The artists I listen to are either just in English or Japanese/Korean.

@Wildfire: no, ever since I came back from Italy I lost all my Italian :( it's a shame, maybe I'll pick it up again.

@grost: I agree with you about learning a language - some of these programs can be good to flesh out your vocabulary and to understand grammar, but it's not really "learning the language". Without being able to speak it, it's really tough to learn!! Swedish? Cool. What made you choose that language?

@sunny: Well, if you pick it back up, let me know. I could use somebody to practice on... errm.... with. XD

@Wildfire: I will do! I will probably try Duolingo this weekend, since lockdown means I have lots of time to kill.

@Wildfire: I've got a weird fascination for scandinavian things, plus some of my favourite bands are swedish and my favourite streamer is swedish
