Posted in what am i supposed to do here? Posted 3 years ago
before i ask my question, let me preface this: i know this is a broad question. there's a million answers to this very basic question, but i'm genuinely curious.

i have a few other questions, so here's a list of them down below. also: please specify which question you're answering! i know that's a weird request, but it's just so i know which questions are being answered.

1. is there a main storyline or lore i'm supposed to be following? if not, are the npcs just here to enrich this site?
2. how do i gain volts aside from having a shop or interacting on the forums? is there a way to gain volts through another source?
3. are there quests i'm supposed to do?

i should've asked these right when i joined, but i never really got the chance to do so.

tbh nothing much happened except for the fact i barely slept until 3am @_@ though i did get some work for this week, so i'm quite good!
Posted in "So what's your favorite..." Posted 3 years ago
it's never easy to answer anything in my case because i don't get attached to anything that easily, i guess? i don't have many favorite things basically.

like if you asked me "what's your favorite color?" i choose yellow as a default even though all the colors are fine and dandy in their own way. for music, it's all of them, and everything else is gonna receive a vague answer because i'm constantly changing and switching aesthetics and whatnot.

@Chiffonorange:
thank you! out of all the things i've drawn here, his hair was both fun and infuriating to draw since i kept having to undo and make it look good. and now that you mention it, you're probably right since krita does have animating software (i have yet to find it, though).

also OOOO i love medibang, it's actually my first "professional" art program. i drew lots of cringy cool stuff, and i have a lot of my artwork saved in the cloud!

as with ms paint, it was my gateway into digital art, and i remember spending a lot of time on ms paint drawing whatever i liked at the time (coughsfnafandmlpcoughs)! i especially loved watching online tutorials and copying what the youtubers were drawing, but over time i changed it so it resonated with how i wanted it to be.

@Totalanimefan:
:frizzhappy: thank you as well! also just gonna throw this in: i really love your current avatar! it's so bright and multicolored, and it also reminds me a lot of 2009-2012 online avatar sites. i give it a 10/10

to start this off: i downloaded a new art program, which is krita. for some reason this file is so BIG but that's krita things i guess? BUT ANYWAYS have this person... why is he feeling the grass. why is his hair everywhere.

some info (more for me to document, feel free to read):
- this is a temp character, he won't last long
- despite his calm stature he's the evil voice at the back of my head. he is not nice do not interact
- OK never mind he's a lil soft... but he's nowhere near being nice
- his counterpart looks. nearly identical but she's more pale and she's the nice one

welcome to my "art gallery" where i'll post art once every year. my workflow art-wise is inconsistent don't yell at me

BUT anyways i'll be doing whatever here (as long as it follows forum rules) so if anyone stumbles across this, you'll be seeing a lot of... whatever i decide to draw.

art content includes:
- characters
- that's it. that's all you're getting.

@Ruby: please please PLEASE do it's the best worst movie of 2017
also i just realized someone already said it x~x but still that's one of my recommendations.

OH and tusks is another bad movie, and i think it's a horror movie about some guy turning into a walrus? i haven't seen it myself, but my friend was telling me all about it and how terrible it was.

the worst movie i've seen (which is arguably my favorite) has to be the velocipastor. i watched it on youtube and my god it's the legitimate worst, but that's what makes it so good. it has a 35k budget iirc, and not even in the first few minutes of the movie it has an sfx scene that they couldn't afford so they put something like "sfx of car burning here" and it felt like i bruised my brain with how hard i was laughing
@totalanimefan: oh, man. that must've been awkward to explain to others when you got the cold, especially since both have similar symptoms. i'm glad it wasn't actually covid, since that would be scary!

that reminds me, a close friend of mine had caught the disease a few months ago. i was scared since he had asthma and his symptoms seemed bad, but thankfully he's doing fine now. i was on the verge of tears when he told me over discord, since i would never had known he'd gotten sick had he not told me, and the little voices at the back of my head kept chanting that he might pass away if it gets too severe.

whoops sorry, that got dark quick! ;~; let's get back with the program...

as for my mom, she's such a hard-working person! i don't think there has ever been an instance where she wasn't working to the best of her ability, and it's truly awe inspiring. ever since the pandemic started and the DOL here started working on working and distributing stimulus checks for everyone, she's been super busy with her work as she works under DOL. i kinda feel guilty since i'm nowhere near her ability to get work done, and just knowing she's my mom is intimidating.

for my classes... i kinda have no other choice but to work hard if i want to graduate! my school's motto is "failure is not an option", and as an 8th grader, it really isn't if i don't want to be retained. i've been trying to get most of my missing work done, and i think it's for my best interest that i get into contact with my teachers for help.

however, i am trying to learn coding, which is something i can learn on my own time! i figured that i can just pick up CSS and whatnot when i actually have the time, and i can do it all at my own pace. i'm planning to get back into it once i roll into spring break or perhaps even summer break, and i'm hoping that it goes well in the end.

happy birthday! hope your celebration's going good! :D
mind if i hop in? ^^;;

in my case with being quarantined for a whole year, i personally have struggled, especially during the later stages. if i remember correctly, i'd come down with a cold RIGHT before our first case of covid was found here (patient zero, as my sister calls me). my dad broke the news to my family that one of the elders here had gotten sick, and a two-week quarantine was issued by the governor. well... two weeks became four weeks, then a month, then the cases spiked rapidly... it was very scary! especially since my parents are susceptible to covid, since they're in their mid-fifties at this point, and they still had to work during these times. my mom was exceptionally busy since she was an essential worker, as she actually works in one of the more important departments where we live.

come august 17th, i started online classes. it was a bumpy start since this was a new mode of learning, but i settled in quick with all the new programs i'd be using to attend classes and doing work. however, because i was so used to just lounging around, i quickly started to suffer during school, specifically with turning in my work. i ended my first semester with two failing grades. i started off my second semester fine, i was turning in my work, but i then immediately fell back into the same rut i was in back then. i guess this is my fault since it's so easy to just do the work and turn it in, but i'm really not the best at that! i was raised in an environment where i never had to work as hard, since at home i had siblings who did all the heavy lifting (not anymore, they've moved on), and i was just the baby who had to be looked after. now it's just me and i'm trying to make it work before i even graduate, so...

tl;dr: i'm not the best, but i'm trying to make it better!

also: restrictions nowadays have been lifted a bit, but i'm still being cautious whenever i have to go out in public! not only that, vaccines had come in a few months ago, and our elders here are being vaccinated including my mom, and hopefully my dad! i can't wait until i can get vaccinated, but it's gonna be a while until that happens.

thank you once more! always great to see such a welcoming community, i can tell i'll be staying here for some time! :D

@Hachi:
thank you! i'll definitely stick around for the spring event, i always love seeing what seasonal items come in! also to answer your question, i generally write whatever's on my mind, but it's always something about my characters. it's mostly an activity for me to expand their backgrounds or personalities or relationships with other characters! for the rp related question, i used to do it before the school year started, but i don't do it as often now that i'm busy with work and whatnot. i'd like to share my characters at some point, but considering how many i have, it's gonna take a lot of time to explain them all. ^^;;

@onsenmark:
hello to you too! (. v .) hope you're doing okay!

@Goblinsandtea:
hey!! glad to meet another person who also enjoys character and world-building, it'd be cool to see your work as well! iirc, i think i found this website through your account. i might be wrong because i'm not the best at remembering, but i've definitely seen you around dv earlier!

hello! as you can tell, i'm new here! i'm scarabee, but i go by gafflin! i found this place through a user's bio on dappervolk, and i go by gafflin over there.

some facts about me:

  • artist and writer! my specialty is designing characters and lore-building, and i tend to design a lot of ocs but only focus on five.
  • interests include homestuck, minecraft, role-playing, flight rising, and dappervolk! i fluctuate between interests a lot, but those are my main interests.
  • i live on the other side of the universe AKA my time zone is much more different than voltra's own!
  • useless fact: my name is a combo of scarab and bee, so if you really wanted to, you could call me by any variation of my username.

and that's all i really have to share! i hope to meet some friendly faces as well as learn about the site along the way!
