@faewild: Naw I totally get it. I recently got ahold of a copy of Doom Eternal and aside from it being too hard for my old old body ( =P ) i've been trying to tear through it.

Which house did you start with? I haven't played the game. But I know there's the horny emo royals, the good upright fellows, and the friendly kids who just want to be friends according to the twitter memes I've seen.

@vengeance: That's an interesting take and perfectly acceptable, though I think there's a context that I would usually incorporate into my rationalization. Culture is not universal. Sure, music is global in a lot of ways, but the music isn't always what is absorbed into the multi-media zeitgeist.

Album covers for Dark Side of the Moon or Abbey Road are visual iconography that can breach any language barrier. These are pieces of art that have been recreated, changed, completely reconstructed within other genres to a point that frankly, most people might not recognize the images from the Beatles, but from a cartoon or anime that mimicked the visuals. I'd be a little confused if someone walked up to me and interrogated me on just how much a HIM fan I was because I thought the heartogram on my shirt was just cool. Heartograms are cool, but I couldn't begin to name a single Ville Valo song.

I usually have the impression that the sort of people that tend to be the loudest gatekeepers have the hardest time understanding specific criticism about the thing they love, or worse, can't stand it when things change. Fanfiction and headcanons are discouraged (Or some headcanons become the "accepted canon" within circles), and when musical artists change and evolve, many fans take the "Their first # albums were much better than the last two, they must have sold out." Bad things are imposed as external, rather than just personal to the Gatekeeper's taste.

Then again, I am not in any mainstream fandoms, likely because I am not so hyper passionate about any particular topic. I love a bunch of things but I am not going to get into a shouting match with anyone who thinks they like it "better" either.

@faewild: Naw I totally get it. Its like sharing work of any kind is terrifying, so I get it. I do a lot of casual cynical and generally aloof/emotionally distant writing online and for my novel, but a lot of my private stuff for myself is a lot more, hmmm, steamy and emotionally wrought. (I mean, Slink is more an exception than the rule =P but that audience is nearly so small as to be just for myself.) I'm usually writing very "this is fine.jpg" characters because that's where I think I tend to excel in building a narrative.

I love the amorphic ooze-y style and the cutsy contrast is *chef kiss*. I love the reverse shot of the face mask("°o°") in the last panel, very mood.

@faewild: I love the whole chibi-horror vibe myself. Something about seeing it all in TV realism makes me cringe and flinch (No thanks Cronenberg, though I respect the craft), but I love reading and admiring art with weird body-alterations and such. Its honestly such a treat to be able to see more of your work in a wholly different genre.

@faewild: Love all the doodles you have going. I had no idea you had such a gift for horrory/body morphy art before here! all of it looks great! Super impressed with all the bits throughout the thread!
and @totalanimefan:

Keto is a lot of work, but if it works out its super great. I think you will be fine as long as you are working to make sure there's some variety involved. My spouse and I have been on and off Keto for years, and have some go to "nutritionally complete" foods (like "Huel" or "Keto Chow") of various types around the house that we toss in as a snack or small meal replacement every little while.

Hey I am super glad the talk went well. Sometime that sort of thing can be hard to explain regardless of how good they are typically. Cheers and best wishes for the next few weeks as you sort things out for sure! Best of luck with schooling too!
Posted in Give me anime/game ost suggestions ? :3 Posted 4 years ago
I highly recommend the OST for Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex season 1 (EDIT: Pft, I see now that Vengeance made the same suggestion, derp). If you like sweeping scores and eclectic character themes, I also recommend "Re:Creator" OST, an anime that myself and like three other people ever saw.

Oh Zanthan, that's terrible. My sincere sympathies. Its been a terrible run of things these past few months, but that doesn't make it any easier when it gets personal.

That's tough, but I am sure your son will understand completely. I hope even more that you will be able to be picked up again soon. Im still sorry it happened at all.
Posted in Getting back into writing Posted 4 years ago
I've always found that when I step away from writing for a little while, I've needed to just sit down and write something, usually with music on that inspires me regarding the story. For instance, when I am writing a particular character, I usually try to put on Ellie Goulding, who just typically has music that resonates with the tone.

Ultimately, I do like writing with regard to just escaping my own problems and finding new ones for someone not-me to be anxious about, ha. I don't necessarily write my own issues into a story, but often the writing lets me vent on frustrations that don't hurt others in my day to day. The last thing I do personally is try to count words each day. its a sure way to demoralize me for weeks if I miss a self-imposed deadline a few times.

Have you been able to get back into writing as of late?
Posted in The dog is clean Posted 4 years ago
My complete sympathies on running out of things to do. I’m trying to run out of things to do so I can settle in and try to do some writing myself. Maybe if I run out of things to do, I will sit down and write! (Or so I keep telling myself.) what else have you been able to do to pass the time? Any shows already slain that you’d recommend?

What’s the doggo’s name?
