And I can so relate. I tend to let mine grow... Long enough it looks a mess with thr cuts I get. Lol.
You should get yours snipped!
(Im in Canada, so I can't speak for everywhere, but I go to Walmart for my trims. If you're worried about pricing, that may be an option for you?)

Back a year ago, I chopped my hair SHORT. Like... a couple inches long asymetical cut short.
My hair had been down to the middle of my back.
The pile on the floor was the size of a cat!

I ended up getting a side fade and by the end of it the hairdresser guy looked at the ground and was like,
"do you want me to bag that up for you? you can literally donate that for one full wig"
