If possible, I'd like the ability to link to specific posts of a thread. As far as I can tell, there's no way to do this.

There is a way. But it's not a super easy/obvious way. You can go through a person's posts and clicking on one of them would get you a link to that specific post. I would prefer a quick and obvious link on the post itself too, though.

Ah, I agree! Perhaps something like showing the post ID next to a post would help. 
There is a way to link to specific posts, but it is a little time consuming to do so.
Like Kent mentioned, you can go to a user's profile and click on a post to bring you directly to their post. Then copy/paste the URL if you wish to provide a direct link to that post. (so for example, Kent's post on this page would be https://www.voltra.us/forum/view_topic/6511/#618005)
If it is a post of your own, you can find the link by clicking "edit" on your post and taking the last series of numbers (post ID) and applying it to this format:
https://www.voltra.us/forum/view_topic/TOPICID/#POSTID

is there a way to perhaps make it so instead of it going by post ID, it just uses the post number on the page? Similar to how Gaia does theirs?
Or does the auto refresh mess this up?
