We’ll carry on
@Curry: my potato salad is more the German version with a twist (no pork, but with chicken pieces)
@Tuijp:
Sounds delicious!
I can't say that I've ever seen German potato salad before. I'll make it sometime with the chicken noted. I'm not big on pork so it's perfect. :D

@Curry: my stomach often doesn’t like pork, so, if I can avoid it, I do.
German dishes often have pork in it. I take those recipes, change pork to chicken and then make them.
@Tuijp:
That's unfortunate but I'm glad that there's an alternative!
I'm bit lactose intolerant so I avoid drinking a lot of milk. I, too feel the same pain. Heh

@Curry: we have a ton of lactose free things in the supermarket. My brother is also lactose intolerant, so I’ve bought a bunch of things before. It seriously gies from milk to butter and everything in between.
@SnakeWeaver:
Sorry! I just noticed this.
We had a coffee maker but weird bugs kept getting into it so we decided to swear off on it. We mainly use the keurig for coffee or I stick loose leaf teas in the reusable k-cup.
@Tuijp:
That's amazing. I usually don't notice with butter or cheese so diet wise I'm okay. Milk is really my enemy haha

@Curry: I usually fry things in butter. There are several different kinds, from just lactose free to completely vegan.
For on a sandwich, I have the lactose free version and for frying things I have the vegan butter. It’s even half as cheap as the regular.
@Tuijp:
Ahh, I usually fry in vegetable or olive oil.
Just hearing sandwich and butter together sounds yummy. Our family almost never have anything with butter and even if we do-- it would sit in the freezer for a whole year. Rare treat.

@Curry: I had liver problems before and then frying things in oil isn’t too good.
In this part of Europe, it’s very common to first add butter on a sandwich and then everything else you want on it.
@Tuijp:
Oof, I'm sorry to hear that.
My parents drilled into my sibilings and I that butter is awful to eat ever since I was young. I still hesitate to use butter to this day.
How much butter do you use to acquire enough for frying? I watch people throw rosemary and thyme in the melted butter sometimes.

@Curry: it’s usually 50 gram for me when I fry things. Rosemary and thyme fried in it is good, but so is unions and fresh mushrooms cut into small pieces.
My grandmother was born shortly after World Wat 1 and she drilled it in me that, when you fry things, you use real butter.
Okay, I do use less salt than she did, but her soup was always so salty that the dead sea became jealous of the salt levels.
