Forums Help & Support Unofficial Guide for Lore and Past Events!

Donator — She/her Posted 4 years ago ( 2020/09/19 02:49:23 )

Hello. This is another unofficial guide. This guide will be a reference for lore on Voltra. This is not staff run and I am not staff, but I thought that it could be a good idea until the staff comes out with their official guide. This guide is not complete. If you would like to read through the events your life I have linked each event forum in their respective posts. I mostly included the art from each event along with some of the text that you could find.

Autumn Block Party 2017:
This was an event to celebrate the opening of Voltra. We have had a block party every year since.
There were lots of contests and things to do. We were introduced to some of our NPCs and our items were based around the NPCs. Some contests as a prize of picking the recolors of these event items. The NPCs would chat with users.

Reaping Ritual 2017:
This was our first full event. All of Voltra's Halloween events are called Reaping Ritual. We met Trick and Treat.

Before time itself, two beings always were. Perfect and delicious, clad in the sweetest of garments, a witch aptly known as Treat, watched over the land during the time of the Reaping ensuring those would not go without sustenance during the dark, cold months to come. Opposite her in all his dastardly and mischievous splendor was a reaper called Trick. Though Treat would be trusted to keep the land plentiful, it was Trick’s duty to keep the atmosphere sinister and foreboding. For no Reaping would be a reaping without Trick, the reaper, swinging his scythe across the land to freeze it for the months to come.

To those presently living in the realms, the balance of Trick and Treat is known as “The Reaping Ritual.” It is common knowledge to those in all the realms that each year Trick and Treat bequeath gifts to one another as a display of the balance between them. This balance is proof that neither has dominion over the lands and that they maintain a neutrality between them when it comes to their duties as guardians of the Reaping. The two of them quietly even consider it a friendship.

On a night not so long ago this year, Trick came upon an abandoned house. In that house was an ancient text with pages tattered from eons of wear and tear. Trick pried the book from its dusty slumber and thumbed through its contents. It didn’t take him long to realize that this was a spellbook, and one that countless witches over time had likely possessed and used. Something like this would definitely be a fitting gift for Treat.

Although as the Reaping drew nearer, an ominous presence lurked in the shadows. As Trick began his surveying of the lands for reaping, the unknown enemy crept into his lair, stole the book he had procured as a present for Treat, and made off with it into the night.

“N-n-no! W-wait!” Trick stammered, chasing after the shadow. The enemy rapidly flipped through the book’s tattered pages, frantically searching for a spell. After chanting a few incantations, a flash of green light engulfed Trick’s enemy and disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. Suddenly, dozens of imps burst forth from the same spot and caused Trick to lose sight of his enemy. They all fought for the book at once, tearing and scattering its ancient pages in a frenzy. The more Trick tried to chase them down and regain the pages, the more and more they spread.

Worst of all, the Reaping was tomorrow, and Trick had no gift to exchange with Treat.

The next evening at twilight, Treat awaited her frantic friend under the largest, gnarliest maple tree in all the realms--the annual meeting place for their ritual.

“H-hello, T-T-T-Treat,” Trick stuttered as he climbed the hill to the tree. He was clammier than usual, but Treat did not notice anything amiss as the reaper normally had trouble with words unless he was taken over by the madness of his task.

“Trick, it is good to see you,” Treat spoke in her calm, dignified tone. “I trust your scythe is ready for its upcoming task? I have already made the necessary preparations to ensure all the citizens in the realms will be well fed this season.”

Trick began to quiver, eyeing the long object Treat held under her cloak. He could only wonder what amazing gift she had brought for him this year. As if reading his mind, Treat pulled forth the concealed gift--a shining, glinting blade to replace Trick’s current scythe. Reflected in its metal was the nebula of the beyond. Trick felt as if he would faint.

“I-I-I don’t have anything f-for you, Treat,” he managed. Treat raised a brow at his uttered words. “I-I’m sorry.” He hung his head, cloak covering his face from Treat. Her stare pierced through him even though his eyes did not meet hers.

“But this is our tradition, Trick. Why would you forget something we have done for centuries?”

Trick opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. Instead a hesitant, high-pitched laugh slipped from his mouth which angered Treat almost instantaneously.

“How could you do this to me?!” she shrieked, hurling her gift into the tree’s bark. It buried itself deep in the trunk of the tree.

Losing his control to the madness dwelling within him, Trick began to panic, trying to fight against the other half of himself. “No--it wasn’t meant to be this way, I swear it. They came and stole it--”

“You will NEVER trick me again!” Treat bellowed. Before she could close her mouth, Treat disappeared in a large cloud of purple smoke. Trick coughed and gasped, heaving the vapor into his lungs which sent a terrible heat coursing through his chilly veins. Before he realized it, his entire body felt as if it were on fire, and the hot feeling made him feel as if he were melting from the inside out.

Treat had cursed him for betraying their friendship, and Trick had no way of telling her the truth now. All he could do was attempt to collect all the scattered pages of the spellbook the imps had spread throughout the lands. However, moving just a step caused the fiery feeling to reignite over and over in Trick’s body. He was never going to be able to regain the book’s pages in his current, cursed state.
Trick made his way to the nearest city, Voltra, seeking help. If citizens of Voltra could find the pages of the book for him to reassemble it for Treat, perhaps their friendship could be saved. “H-help me, good f-friends,” Trick called, looking for any Volties to aid him in his nearly-impossible task. “I p-promise, I will make it worth your w-while.”

Then everything changed when the fire nation attacked the Blackout happened.
The site went offline in November 2017. The site reopened in Feb/March 2018. The Voltra reopened we had The Blackout Event:
This event was in two parts and had a lot more lore.

With the electricity still out and no remedy in sight, Volties have become restless.
The city council and shopkeeper NPCs banded in the early morning hours a few days ago to put their
brains together on a way to make the best of the situation. Their final decision? What better way to
calm the minds of the people than making a bad thing something great? An event! While our resources
are limited, there are certainly ways to make this trying time fun for the masses.

So, instead of surviving, take a load off and remember to continue LIVING!

▲▲ ▽ ▲▲

Welcome to the Alpha 2.0 Event! To celebrate Voltra’s re-opening to our former users,
we have planned a little event to promote some camaraderie in these dark times! Since we are all in
the middle of surviving without electricity, what better way than to pass the time with fellow Volties
by participating in contests, chatting, and snatching up some limited items?

Let’s make the best of this very dark situation!

Our first Valentines event was Vibrance Festival 2019.

There's this fancy tree that originated in the Sound Realm, that goes through 4 seasonal shifts on one random day in March.
Legend has it that this was Sound's very first "Guardian", but when the Realm needed saving from darkness, she gave her life and sprouted three flowers that gave birth to the three guardians the Sound Realm knows today.

Voltra's mayor is one of the founders of our home, and he took one of the miniature versions of the Guardian Tree that people have aptly named "The Blooming March" and brought it to a realm with dead soil and ruins.
With its help, the soil flourished again and our mayor along with a few of his friends were able to make the ruins their new home: Voltra.

On the day it blooms, people get together to brew tea from its flowers. Folklore has it that if you drink from the same cup of March Tea with somebody else, your souls will bond. How romantic.

Vanora pays a visit to her father, who also happens to be the mayor of Voltra - Volkan.
A busy man with a kind heart finally realizes even he needs a day off and decides the perfect time to do so, is to spend time with his daughter during the Vibrance Day Festival.

He picks up a fruit platter to bring over to her and Vivienne's apartment but unbeknownst to him, the girls adopted a food-addicted cat named Timberland last Solstice.
He mistakes the baby-proofing of the apartment as indication one of the girls is 'expecting', but reality comes crashing down on why food cabinets need to be protected when Timberland ravages the expensive fruit platter and runs off with a slice of cantaloupe.

Volkan makes pursuit to obtain it back, and after retrieving the defiled fruit back, he shares a laugh with the girls. Ultimately he and Timberland take a liking to each other.

Vanora asks for clarification about The Blooming March, a tree that originates from the Realm of Sound - their homeland.
He tells the mythology behind the tree that can be read a post above titled "Blooming March"

Volkan sets out promising to reconvene at the festival later, but first: he has to meet up with a certain shopkeeper...

Volkan makes his way to Valentina's shop with the intentions of congratulating her on a successful first quarter since her shop's grand opening.
On the way, he reminisces old times and old friends...such as how Voltra came to be and where it is headed in the future.

When he arrives at his destination, he is quickly overwhelmed by Valentina's technical talk and has to hyper-focus in order to intellectually keep up.
A large airship causes an overcast midst their conversation and his heart skips a beat wondering if the mysterious pilot was his long lost friend.

Volkan invites Valentina with him to investigate, but by the time he turns around she has already frantically run away after seeing the airship...

If it is who they think it is, then her feelings of angst are valid...
Volkan sprints to the docks as he has his hopes up that his best friend finally came back home.

The mayor is correct, a surprise to all, Vaughn Mard'gear, the traveling merchant from the Metal Realm, one of Voltra's founders and also Valentina's adoptive father, makes a grand entrance (as is his usual style).

The dashing and sly cigar-addict hasn't changed a bit from what Volkan remembers.
Frizz and Static rush to welcome an old friend before Volkan cuts in to have a happy reunion.
The mayor guides Vaughn back to his old shop, that was now no longer called Mard'Gearz but taken over by his daughter and re-labeled Reduce, Reuse, Reinvent!

When Vaughn arrives home, calling out to his beloved daughter and ignored, he knows she is angry with him.
He had up and gone missing for two years without any notice...but his reasons are justifiable, if she'd just give him a chance!
Vaughn partakes in solving puzzles and eluding traps to try and find where Valentina is hiding within the shop.

He finds her hiding in the barrel of a laundry dryer, and she attacks him with a mechanical 'arachnabroom' to restrain him for questioning.
When he reveals he was missing and couldn't write to her because he was captured and brought to prison, the two have a heart to heart about the circumstances of Vaughn's alleged crime...

The metal realm always known for its steampunk aesthetics, had made an alliance with the electric realm resulting in electrics cyber technology
to flood into the wealthy of Metal and divide the people even further- "The Cyber Elite" or, "The Great 4" placed Vaughn under arrest.

It turns out Vaughn was arrested for the kidnapping of Valentina Diorite, but the girl Vaughn knows and had been raising is named Valentina Tinker, right?
He had denied the crime as he genuinely was innocent - he never kidnapped anyone.
Rather than rat out his beloved adoptive daughter, Vaughn stayed locked up figuring she had her reasons for hiding something from him.
Fearful she may be in danger, his lips remained sealed and he feigned ignorance to the mysterious missing pink headed girl.

A few convenient friends that owed Vaughn favors pulled some strings and formed alibi's eventually permitting his release.
Valentina, now wrought with guilt over her own anger at him, confesses she lied to him and begins to tell her story as to why she ran away from home and escaped by hijacking his airship when she was only eight years old.

Born and raised in one of the four great families that dominated the Realm of Metal, Valentina was expected to act prim and proper, and become the ideal of femininity. Dealing with a narcissistic mother, a barrage of verbal abuse, and ignorance-based physical abuse (such as being forced into a corset that unintentionally snapped one of her ribs) left Valentina as a very broken-down and anxious child.

Tensions between the Realms of Sound and Metal have always been high - their walks of life greatly contrasting.
That doesn't stop diplomats and political powers from trying to find common ground though, as both could benefit from each others resources.
Sound itself has very few options of truly protecting itself.

Valentina reminisces back to an extravagant party the Metal Realm hosted for Sound diplomats.
In attempts to win over the Metal Realm, the diplomat presented a gift for each member of the four great families.
Valentina's mother Ruby, was gifted a very rare beetle said in legend to "open new doors" for their caretakers, but she was unimpressed and absolutely insulted.

Val on the other hand, was enchanted by the beetle.
One of the Metal Guardians, Amethyst, offered Ruby that she could 'add value' to the beetle by creating "living jewelry" to which Ruby promptly agreed, handing the imprisoned beetle over.

Val was left with immense anxiety, worried what would happen to the bug she quickly grew fond of.

Valentina is reminiscing still.
At another forced gathering Val had to doll up for, she saw around her mother's neck: the beetle. He was spray-painted gold and had gemstones glued onto him.
The beetle struggled to move, being chained and worn as jewelry but her mother loved the piece.

The concept of living jewelry felt barbaric to Val, and she vowed to save the beetle and herself from this nightmare.
Stealing a maid uniform and retrieving the beetle from her mother's room, she fled out a window and ran to the Steam City as fast as she could - eventually making her way to a cargo area.
She unloaded a crate of goods and locked herself within one to be loaded onto a random airship.

A few hours into flight she broke free, which is where she met Vaughn, the traveling merchant.
He had assumed she was fleeing from extensive child labor - an ongoing large scale crime in the Realm of Metal.
She nodded her head and when he asked her name, she changed it to the most common surname in Metal - Tinker.

He loved the little girl's personality and had been planning on retiring soon.
Impressed she hijacked his ship, and after bonding through travels he decided to full on adopt the young girl as his own.
Raising her and teaching her everything he knew over the course of a decade.

When Val turned 18, he intended on making a quick trip to Metal so to finish packing up his apartment there. He left a note stating he would be back in three months but didn't return until two years later - now.

Now with their stories straight, and having a heart to heart Valentina and Vaughn finally are able to enjoy each other's presence and get out how much they missed each other. They go together to attend the Vibrance Festival and Vaughn shows off his knowledge of the Blooming March and how to steep the best cup of tea with its blossoms.

The party is hijacked however, and both Vaughn and Valentina are violently detained by a giant mech who had been using magic to be invisible.
Within the mech, Metal Guardian Cinnabar cackled out that he caught Vaughn and the missing Valentina Diorite red-handed.

Quickly, other NPCs shuffle in to help their friends - Spark restrains Cinnabar, and Mayor Volkan friendly approaches, but with a threatening aura, forcing Cinnabar to have a debate of legalities and ethics.

Successfully restrained by Spark, Cinnabar is brought into Mayor Volkan's office, away from tainting the uplifting Vibrance Day Festival and especially away from harming Val and Vaughn any further.

Volkan instructs Spark to loosen his grip on the hot-head, while Cinnabar and Volkan engage in a verbal battle of wits: Cinnabar trying to justify capturing Val and Vaughn to bring home, and the mayor making arguments to protect them here in Voltra.

During their debate, it is revealed to Cinnabar that Vaughn lost his arm during a tragedy of a high tier beast that devoured his son- and his arm with him.
Vaughn was at one point married to one of the Cyber Elite named Sapphire before she came to fame. She dedicated her life to prosthetic needing to focus on something aside the death of her son which ended up being a lucrative business. Their mutual depression for what happened to their boy resulted in a divorce, which not too long after would be when Vaughn unwittingly adopts Valentina.

Inevitably, Cinnabar's hot-headed nature detracted from his reasoning and was unable to validate his position.
He storms off shamefully back to his mech and heads back home - leaving Val and Vaughn relieved they can be left in peace. For now, anyway.

Now with the threat gone, everyone is able to let loose and be themselves again.
Vanora gets wrapped up in some of Valentina's gear-head talk and doesn't know how to escape it.
Volkan and Vaughn bicker over smoking in public areas before solidifying Vaughn's work contract for
The Knowledge Base.

And looking on at them all is a pensive Vontell feeling a bit haunted by his own past...witnessing a guardian of Metal coming here to retrieve Val and Vaughn concerns Vontell if his home of Electric would do something similar, if they were to ever be aware he was living here in Voltra...

Before the thoughts can bother him too much, the boisterous laugh of Vaughn, Valentina, Mayor Volkan and Vanora ground him back in reality.

Everyone is back to themselves again and feeling free spirited for now- but much like Vontell's concerns...there are many Volties here who are refugees from other realms.
This leaves a lingering wonder of who is next to be chased down by their past...and how safe is Voltra as a relatively newer in-development realm compared to the rest?

Time will tell.

Winter Solstice 2019 Voltra's Winter/Holiday Event.

Falling snow covered much of the landscape of Voltra, blanketing it in a wonderful coat of ivory that sparkled from the sheer abun Decorations hung from trees, bushes, lampposts and wherever hanging them up was possible. Many of the city’s residents could be found out and about, either doing their holiday shopping or simply spending time with friends and family.

Things were hectic, and Voltra’s premiere protectors, Spark, Frizz and Static, would be occupied with tasks of their own. There was some leftover tension in the air courtesy of some very stressful happenings throughout the year, and this winter solstice was the perfect time to wipe it all away! With that in mind, the guardians sought to do what they can to remind some Volties about what it was that made them love the winter solstice.

“All things considered, this shouldn’t be too hard. Why, with MY wondrously electrifying efforts and your no doubt invaluable help, this should be a cinch!” Spark grinned as he spoke to the Static and Frizz. The former stood almost stock still, giving the more exuberant guardian a positive grunt. The latter bouncing on the balls of her feet as she listened with rapt attention. Static just nodded in silent agreement, already thinking of what needs to be done.

Frizz jumped, landing on Static’s shoulders with all the grace of someone on two sugar rushes. “Come on come on come on! The sooner we get started the sooner we’ll get everything done!” she declared, and with that the three guardians made their ways to their separate destinations.

Why do we celebrate Solstice:

Several things really!
*The success of the reaping ritual, permitting the seasons to change…
*Appreciating those closest to us, usually giving something back in return for enriching our lives.
*Commemorating lives no longer here. It is tradition to decorate every tree and bush outside, with red ribbon and bells. We do so in hopes that when spring comes, the life energy that Panthalassa sends back out, can return to their homes and flourish green again come Spring. You might write a name of a loved one on these ribbons, so that a small piece of their energy may return to the tree you designated their name on. When their bell starts ringing out in the wind, you know they are there, saying thank you for remembering them! They made it back safely… Warms my soul right up.

This year is going to be exceptionally heart warming as we take a look back on the childhood memories of our most respected and loved citizens of Voltra - the NPCs!

Warning! Some of these stories are very sad but heartwarming but I think that these are some of the best stories that we have about these NPCs.
